Anyone ever bought an off-brand petcock?
My project Ninja had a bad petcock. For the sake of price and shipping speed ($13 vs $75, a few days vs a week) I bought an aftermarket/off brand petcock listed as fitting the Pregen on ebay. I haven’t seen any mention of people buying these. Is this a spectacularly bad idea? It’s definitely different from the one that was on the bike: it has prime, reserve and on settings instead of off, reserve, on. But it looks as if it’ll function. Anyone have experience with these, good or bad?

Take a look at photos and compare dimensions. You'll find eBay petcocks are too short and ends up hitting inside of tank. You won't be able to tighten bolts to seal against tank.
Much better to get rebuild kit for factory petcock. I think there's some Canadian outfit that makes rebuild kit with every part needed. |

Indeed, you’re right. I’m repainting the tank so i hadn’t been able to go check it yet. I just did and it definitely won’t work. Frustrating that they sell them saying they fit, but at least it wasn’t a lot of money wasted.
I’m not confident in the rebuild process on this bike, knowing very little about how long the petcock has been bad, what other issues there might be, etc. Guess I’ll be ordering a real one from my local parts place tomorrow. |

I just got a non-vacuum petcock off Amazon. Honestly I recommend it.. under $10 vs $60+ for the OEM. It's a replacement for Suzuki and Yamaha dirt bikes and quads. However you will need a longer fuel line, the outlet is on the other side. And don't forget to block off your vacuum line really well, a machine screw and a couple hose clamps works well.

We bought one that was like the one Danno posted - and it was a pain.
No vacuum connection so you needed to manually turn it off if you wanted to make sure it wouldn't drain the tank into the engine, but it was tucked so far up under the tank you could barely get to it. Pass. |

Why not to rebuild the stock ? I just paid about 20CAD for all the rubber pieces: orings and gaskets, etc. All OeM from Kawasaki. Going to rebuild mine this winter.
