F*%&ing Snow!

We have probably 8 inches of snow right now and they're forecasting possibly more than 2 feet. It didn't start until 2. My 20-min commute took over 4 hours, and there were wrecks everywhere. At one point we had to thread between 4 disabled tractor-trailer trucks, two broken down cars and the guardrail to get through! The hubby had to get out and help push the truck in front of us that was 2-wheel drive and got stuck in the middle of everything - thankfully we got them out of the way and made it home safe and sound, even if I did have a major panic attack! Oh my God that was scary - I'm off to listen to the baby now to make sure everything is ok!

They even mention snow within 200 miles of here and all of the bread, milk, eggs, and bottled water dissapear from the shelves and the area goes into full alert panic mode. I'm on duty tonight in the shipyard, so there's no telling what I'll wake up to tomorrow morning!

It's been snowing here for about an hour. I managed to get an hour of riding around lunch time, since I had today off or so I thought. Been working since 2 PM and just finished.

You can have mine... It was 3 degrees F this morning, pretty close to that again now. Really wanted one more ride this year, looks like that isn't going to happen and I should just pull some of the pieces off and start some other work.

Wound up with 14" of snow here, with disabled vehicles littering the roads like confetti. Sadly, I added my old 2WD Ranger to the collection this morning, trying to get home. But sure is pretty outdoors!

Edit: managed to dig the truck out finally and get it into a legal parking spot. Helped 3-4 other people do the same. Forgot how much fun the snow is!

You guys should move north for some practice. Of course it doesn't help when everyone has "all season" tires on their cars and there are only 2 snow plows in a county because they rarely need them. All season tires, can anyone in snow country say oxymoron?

Aye, it's fairly amusing. I knew better, after spending 10 years in Colorado but made the mistake anyway.

Four snows is the only way to go. Lived in Central New York up until 18 years ago. Learning to drive in the snow there is a skill one never forgets. Watertown can get grim. I remember that I had a Blazer then with some pretty agressive tires.

Greg, You folks really get hammered. The skiiers and snowmobile riders love it. It is really not all that long---gives us a chance to do bike projects and such.

Only ended up with a light dusting here, damn it all! If it's going to be cold, might as well have snow! Nothing is worse than constant 36 degree rain!

I agree with putting on 4 snow tires. Even though i have a 4x4 the all seasons i had made it difficult stay on the road. Put 4 X-Ice and the difference is amazing. By the way you guys in the south can keep all that snow. I'm happy with the little we have now

Dual sport, knobbies, screws in the knobs for ice traction. I'd probably do it just to be a fool if I owned one of those bikes.

Snow, schmow... It's been raining all day and it's eaten away half of the snow that's come so far this year. No skiing this week. Maybe I can get the Ninjette out of storage for a day or so. Imagine... Christmas on two wheels... only in Labrador. Pity what!

We only had about 8 inches. I waited until everyone else decided to go to bed and went out for some back road driving fun in the Subaru. Put my snow tires on on friday night, and had no problems at all. I love snow on the weekends. During the week it is a real PITA.

Amen to that gnfreak. We had to go move the duck blind back into the trees on the river and tie it off for fear of it floating away. The Illinois river is supposed to rise over 6 feet in the next 2 days because of all the rain. Guess its the goose pit for the rest of the season.

I have noticed the snow doesn't fall for as much of the year as it used to. A couple years ago, it was common to have a quick dusting in mid-April. But last spring, the weather was consistently warm and clear in March, when I brought the Ninja home. Woot for global warming.

Right now we are getting 50mph gusts and the temp is going into the single digits for the next three days. Our boat cover is taking a beating and we can`t do anything till the wind quiets down. The Ninja is fine in the heated shop, and I am busy working on bicycles. (Mostly restoration work and some race bike upgrades) Sure wish that I would have stayed with mechanics rather than have done college and gone the medical route. Am so much happier working with my hands. It is too bad that I waited till I was 67 till I got it. Anyway, I can`t be happier now. Don`t get me wrong, I was good in my profession---some people said, excellent, but working on bikes gives me a sense of accomplishment beyond measure.

Weather over here sucks too, we had snow, not much but enough to be a problem. Then we had frezzing fog leaving thin layers of ice everywhere, although they are crystal like and crunch under your feet, they are not too bad.

Around Christmas it got a bit above frezzing for about 2 hours every day, melting that crystal like frozen fog and leaving the roads damp just in time for the cold to come again and turn it into black sheet ice. Really nasty stuff. Almost fell over 8 times walking 0.8 of a mile and you could not even see what you where slipping on. And when it froze, it happened quick.

Today its a bit warmer, but we have gale force winds again and the rain is coming down hard (and sideways). Apparently it will get up to 3C at the weekend and be reasonably dry, hopefully I can get the bike out for an hour. Best way to kick of a new year

There was no snow in Toronto yesterday but when i got home in NB it was a totally different story. Runway was very icy, drifting snow, lots of snow in the driveway which wasn't plowed. I think i brought half the snow from my patio into the house with my suitcases.
