Petcock Filter Anyone?
I'm hoping someone can help me please: I took the petcock off my tank so I could clean it out and found that the one of the little filters on the petcock is ripped in half.
The petcock has 3 settings: on, off, and reserve. I'm not sure if the filter on the "reserve" is the same size as the "on", but I've been looking everywhere and no on seems to just sell the tiny little filter. Help please. |

Welcome to our site, Woody !!!
Is it metal or plastic? If metal, you may be able to solder it. Many install an in-line filter, which makes that problem that you have less critical. There is also a little in-hose filter at the end of the fuel hose, just where it connects to the carbs.

The filter is plastic. It slips onto the brass shaft. I'm planning on installing an inline filter like you mentioned but I'm a bit anal when I see something that needs to be replaced. I'm going to pull the inhose filter as well and check it out...I'm enjoying the maintenance as much ad the riding. Thanks for the welcome.

try these. Using your choice of adhesive, should work fine. Seem to fit both reserve and ON positions.

Another way: I had some fine brass screen so I soldered up replacements. They'll outlast me by decades, I'm sure. Screen is available at places like www.mcmaster.com I'm sure a search will turn up many other sources.

New Petcock and inline fuel filter
Hey guys thank you for the suggestions. I am keeping my old one and will order parts later this week when i get paid. thank you so very much. the new petcock I ordered looks like it will make a perfect fit. I am currently having the tank lined on to prevent rust, then I will paint it, but I dont even have a color scheme yet....
