El250 will no longer start
Hi, suddenly today my el250 will no longer start, was working perfectly yesterday, I noticed yesterday there was alot of petrol coming out of left carb overflow.
Today it sort of started but was only firing on right cylinder, then petrol started coming out of airbox and since then it won't start at all, I used low pressure air on the carb inlet and the carb no longer spills fuel out of overflow, but it still will not start. I also noticed I have been having problems with the key ignition sometimes when I turn the bike on the bike lights do not come on, but after turning on and off a few times they come on, might be related to the problem? |

hmm, overflow at bottom of carb? the drain bolt is sufficiently tight? Or is fuel actually migrating from above somewhere?

My money would be on stuck float in the left carb. In my experience, left carbs stick much more than right ones, especially on a cruiser like the Eliminator which doesn't have a centerstand. Leaned over on the side the way they are wreaks havoc on that low carb. Personally, I would send the set off to the dude that services carbs here
As far as the electrical issue, dig into the wiring and start cleaning. Being that your ignition wiring is affected, I would look for rubbing around the headstock and any place where things could get pinched. Somewhere some insulation is getting worn thin, I would think.

Petrol coming out of airbox is major problem! Routing of hoses may be mixed up. Overrlow hose should be draining straight to ground near centre of bike. Need to pull carbs for complete overhaul.
As for lights not coming on, might be worn-out ign-switch. Measure voltage on output wires at switch itself. If power isn't coming out at source, it's not gonna make it downstream to bulbs. |

complete overhaul.....not limited to simple jet cleaning....using all new float valves and bowl orings ...clean the float system as well, finish with adjusting and wet testing PRIOR to reassembly on bike.

Turns out internal tank filters are blocked and 1 has disintegrated, the reserve filter was toast, installed new 1's and found a bit of tank paint lacquer jammed in the float valve.
Think I will replace fuel tap to as thats 27 years old also and flushed the tank out to, runs fine now. Thanks yall. Last futzed with by BloodFX; March 16th, 2022 at 02:23 PM. |
