Which air cleaner element to get for 2006 EX250F?
I have my tank off as I am replacing the LH switch block (horn and pass button dead). Whilst I was there, I decided to inspect the air filter. It is all rotted out and has degenerated into clumps of oily foam. See attachments.
I looked on ebay, and there are sellers with Unifilter NU2366 but they say this is only for 88-99. I did find one saying GPX250R 1996-2007, they are Whites Power Sports WPAF1293022, but they had no pictures. Can anyone tell me which one I should buy? I am in Australia and the unifilter brand is common here. I can see that my bike has had hardly any maintenance. I suspect that with 25,000km/16,000 miles on it that the valve clearances have never been checked. That will be my biggest job yet. Cheers. |

I'm not aware of any differences in the air filter from '99 to '06. The change was made in '08.
I like Uni Filters, and Twin Air as well. You will need some air filter oil also. I like the the aerosol oil. Just be sure to go very lightly, or you will choke the engine, and it will run poorly. One light pass with the oil is adequate. |

So, I have my new oiled filter element installed and the bike is running well. Had to adjust the idle up a bit.
My question: What holds the lid of the airbox down? There is a strap thing that goes over a knob at the front of the air box and runs toward the battery. Looks like the strap at the battery end is supposed to have a clamp but mine has split and whatever clamp is now gone. Where is this end supposed to attach? Thanks. |

There is cap with intake tunnels. Rubber strap should have metal hook end that wraps around back of battery compartment.

K&N do a filter for these, it increases the filter area & effectively makes the airbox bigger. You need to put a self taper screw in the airbox drain hole from the outside. Its located on the bottom rear left corner.

10w40 oil for the bike works but you really gotta drain all the oil from filter

Unlike engine oil, air filter oil has a tackiness to it that traps dirt.
Adding oil to the filter (in a bag) and trying to squeeze it out usually leaves way too much, can block airflow, and will make the engine run poorly. One light coat of aerosol air filter oil on a clean/dry filter is usually the best. |
