Breaking in on the highway?

So basically, I am wondering if I can ride my new 2009 250r on the highway. I've put 20 miles on it so far just cruising around on the streets but have been nervous to take it on the highway because my highway speed limits are set to 65mph and I have read that when breaking in the bike, I should not allow it to rev past 5,000 rpm. BUT, It seems that when I am in 6th gear @ 5,000 rpm's, I am only touching 50 mph and that is just tooooooo slow and would easily aggravate many car drivers around here. I do not want to wait until the bike is "broken in" to take it out on the highway. What can I do?

Personally I think the manufacturer's "recommended" break-in is designed to make you spend more money on their services. I personally agree with the motoman method of using the full rev range under load in the first 100 miles then doing a good oil change. But since I bought my bike used I can't truly advise you other then with my opinion. However I will say that I don't know of any car where you have to baby it like Kawi wants us to baby the ninja for breaking it in.

Modern cars use roller cams and pre-honed low-tension rings (for efficiency) so break-in is minimal. When you have slider cams and standard rings like our 1980's technology motors, break-in is more important, especially in getting the rings properly seated in the bores.
