Do You Ride Sick?... (Spin-off of do you ride stick?)

I first misread jonthechron's poll and well I stumbled accross a good topic.

Do you ride when you are sick?

As we all know alertness is very important if you want to stay safe on the road. Please let us know what your philosophy is when it comes to motorcycle riding and illness.

What some consider sick others may not. If I feel ok then I'll ride. I had the flu once and my mom caught me outside playing basketball. I told her being sick is all in your head, she told me to get my butt back in the house or else. lol

If I feel fine then I'll ride.

If I couldn't get out of bed then I wouldn't ride, but if I couldn't get out of bed, I wouldn't be doing much of anything.

I vomited at Roebling rd after a race, before I could get back to the pits. I don't ride on the roads when I feel like crap... I had already paid my entry fees that weekend.

It depends on your definition of sick. A cold or whatever...that's easy stuff. I don't even consider that 'sick'. I rode with a head-cold last week. If anything, it helped clear my head.

But if my balance or ability to concentrate has been compromised then I won't ride...but odds are if I'm that badly affected, I probably won't leave the house.

The poll's choices aren't structured very well as I would choose several options. As an old guy I don't have 100% days anymore, haven't for years. I ride unless I have a high fever (screws with balance and focus) or can't physically deal with something on the bike (arthritis, joint pain, back, etc). Things like puking and gastric issues are very transitory so I'll ride unless at that very moment I can't.

Luckily for me I get to ride 95% of the time that I want to ride.

I'm actually in the middle of a sinus infection, and I'm still riding. Since I'm not taking anything but aspirin I'm not really out of it, but if I were on the really heavy antihistamines, decongestants or cough syrups I wouldn't ride. Anything that makes you drowsy or puts you 'out of it' is as dangerous as riding drunk.

I have to be 100% healthy and feeling good or the ride is just no fun.

Yep, halfway through a ride to work and cough up a nice lung cookie. Had another 10 miles before I could take off my helmet to spit it out. Did I ride the next day? Sure did.
Like you said, unless its vomitting, diarrhea or dizziness its game on.

On that note I want to take the opportunity to say how much sneezing insde the helmet sucks.

Old guy too. I agree about the less than 100% days. I'll take the cage if I'm having an "off" kind of day.
