You guys are high speed! The farthest I've traveled from home is about 2-3 miles! I've only been riding for a couple of weeks though. Still haven't been on the highway!

Good luck with the ride. If you find yourself in Northridge on the way to San Diego, let's go for a ride!

Tips for Long Distance Travel

I've heard from many sources that the ninja isn't great at long distance rides. What can be done to the bike to make it more geared toward touring?

I've gone 700 miles in a weekend, and I'm sure there are a lot of other guys that have done a lot more.

Other than the high rpms, and the small amount of passing power, the ninja 250r is a great little touring bike. Of course other bikes do better, but with the right stuff you can travel quite a bit.

Yes, it is, but I pretty much did it with what gas I had left when I woke up in Deming, NM + one fill up. I have since made the return trip in under two days (San Diego to Newnan, GA).
