Matte finish muffler question

Any thoughts on taking a Scotchbrite pad to the chrome muffler can? Is it possible to achieve a nice satin finish, or will it just look scratched up? I seem to remember reading this on a different forum where people were getting good results.

yes you can dull the chrome to achieve a matte finish. i did this with sandpaper before i decided to paint my can black.

definitely better than the shiny monstrosity that is the stock can, but i prefer the painted look better, especially on a black bike. give it a shot - if nothing else, its the first step in prepping the can to be painted if decide to go with that option.
