yes, I believe from the carb, it goes up to a tee fitting. one side of the tee fitting goes to the kleen system cutoff valve and the other side of the fitting connects to that round thing on the side of the carbs. look for a port on that round thing that looks like it's missing a vacuum hose.

it runs for a minute, surges, then dies.
then i have to switch the petcock to prime and it starts right back up. |

even with the gas cap open it does the same thing.
when the bike is running it runs good, its just like it cant keep the supply of fuel coming. |

are you sure you have a vacuum hose hooked up the the back of the fuel petcock and it is pulling vacuum when the bike is running?

im also not hearing that whine from the tank, but it does the same thing with the tank cap open. |

next time someone has the tank off, could you please snap a few pictures of how EVERYTHING is hooked up in the carb area.
some pics through the top of the frame, and some of the left side of the bike where that little circular thing is with all the vacuum lines. i love my motorcycle and if i had known this fiasco was afoot i never would have attempted to shim it. and this is coming from a kid that took a stock 99 integra GS-R and turned it into a 271whp fire breather. |

the large fuel line is run off the petcock to the side of the carb like its supposed to be.
the small line off of the petcock goes down in between the carburetors the vacuum line off of that tee is run to the circular thing on the left side of the carbs. |

i fixed it.
i had two vacuum lines swapped around. i had the one that goes onto the fuel petcock hooked onto that circular thing on the side of the carbs. and the one that hooks onto the circular thing was run to the tank. i swapped them, and she runs like a champ. i fixed it by staring at pictures in Kelly's "how to remove the gas tank" and "how to shim the needles" threads. *edit* the petcock actually has a little dab of white paint on it, and the corresponding hose also has a dab of white paint. thank you kelly, i feel like i need to fed ex you some cookies or something. |

glad you finally figured it out.
large sums of money would be appreciated, but in lieu of that, all I ask is that next time someone on this board needs similar help, you help them with what you've learned from your experience. It's called "paying it forward"! Happy New Year... now get out there and ride! ps... let us know how you like the bike after it's been shimmed. |

Tip for anyone removing vacuum lines; By some colored paint markers and mark the lines and where they go.
Glad to hear the bike is running. |

the bike runs great now that its been shimmed properly.
it seems to have more mid range "grunt", i wouldnt say its any faster, but between 6500 revs and about 9500 revs it really comes alive. it sounds much better too. i look forward to a pod filter, a jet kit, and the area P high mount. |

that's exactly what shimming is designed to do... that and help to warm up/let the bike start easier.
