Huh, the image showing the rearview is pretty impressive. Since all I can see are my elbows this looks like a unique solution.

Does it have a DOT stamp yet? Last I heard, they were still working on it.

Yes, it is DOT certified. I need one of these. I wish they'd license their technology to shoei... or offer a retrofit kit for the RF-1100. lol

So am I going to have to get bi-focals cut on the top of my glasses to see the rear view?

webbikeworld did a review on that some time back. I don't remember if they liked it or not.
I wonder how distracting that would be, after all, you're supposed to be looking out in front of you more than in back. How does that large area open in the back detract from the impact resistance and structural integrity of the helmet in a crash when you hit the ground? $500 price tag? Right now, just another gimmick, or is that a real breakthrough? Time will tell. |

I had seen this last spring and had looked into getting one last year. I never got around to ordering it. I'll agree with Spoof, it really is genius.
The video is definitely the best review of how it works. I can't tell you how many comments I've scene, that said, "Nice idea until the batteries die". Obviously, they hadn't done any reading about the helmet. |

One thing that would suck is riding at night. Not only would you have oncoming headlights in your face, you would also have headlights in the mirror. Guess you would have to close it off for night riding.

Well, it does seem to have a uv protective lens on the back of the helmet which would work with headlights at night but its not like your gonna see much at night anyway. This would definitely boost my confidence about getting rear ended at a stop light though.

What about the glare in your face if you're riding west and the sun's on your back?

UV has nothing to do with visible light. As far as vision at night, it would depend on where you are. I live in an area with millions of people and there's always people on the road 24-7. Street lights, huge business signs, road crews working at night, etc. There are tons of things that could potentially blind you at night around here.

The "mirror" does not have the same reflective property as glass. It is a more muted reflection. Also the rear "visor" is designed to reduce glare. I have to say without trying one on it seems like a lot of thought and engineering went into the development of this product. They said 2£ million(3+ million $)

You're still going to have a bunch of lights flashing at the upper end of your field of vision at night while you're trying to see what's up ahead of you and I think that could be very distracting. Also the light in your eyes may also impair your night vision. There should be some adjustment to close off the rear view at night - the whole idea is probably of very limited benefit anyway and you still have your rearview mirrors.
If you had one of those, I bet you would be constantly gazing up there out the back hoping you wouldn't miss something, while you run off the road or plow into something ahead of you. You have to be aware of your surroundings at all times and not get distracted with extraneous inputs. MHO. |

I think this is like what in medicine we call technology in search of a disease.
Lots of thought, engineering and expense went into making this but what practical value or need does it fill and how many people will adopt this and how useful (or distracting and dangerous) it will be remains to be determined. I would also be interested more importantly like I said before on how the large open area in the back disrupts the strength and integrity of the helmet in an impact and the price of $500 is probably more related to recouping costs of development rather than technological breakthrough or materials and manufacturing costs, but that's OK too if there is a market for this. We'll see what happens if it get more widespread use and the reviews come in from the average Joe. |

Assuming they have applied for the necessary utility patents they could sell this for whatever price they choose and will have exclusivity for the next 20 years (US). The reviews have suggested that while they could have rolled out a cheap product with the rearview technology they instead have decided to put out a good helmet with quality materials. Personally if this was my product I would want to sell to as many people as possible and having bad reviews for shoddy product out of the gate would not help matters. I think once you are used to having the rearview it would be more like having an omnipresence of your surroundings and not just a distraction. I would not want to get rid of my rearview mirror in my car. |

I like the technology and the rear view this helmet gives the rider. The helmet is DOT approved and meets the standard. I suspect that it would take some time to get used to it. I am sure that they probably have a cover for the "back window" to cover glare and other situations that are annoying. I'll probably get one when it is time to replace my Nolan even though my new bike has excellent rear view mirrors.

I guess we just have to wait 'till these come out and are available - to put one on your head and see what you think, and reserve judgment 'till then because right now we're all whistlin' in the wind. But the different opinions are all interesting and everyone has a valid point.

I wonder if you still need mirrors on the bike to be legal if you have one of these.

I hate the mirrors that are on the bike they distract me like crazy. Always flashing light into my eyes and generally distracting from my riding experience. I feel that having this in my helmet might be better than having the mirrors but could still prove very distracting. I rarely look into my mirrors I use them for lane changing sometimes but still rather look over my shoulder.
I would just have to try one out and see if it is a decent idea. Also something not thought of. I lean down out of the wind and into crouched position now I can only see thru the top portion of the helmet visor. Having to switch the mirror up and then back down would bother me too. |

I'm curious how they added in enough padding on the rear and top area of the helmet, maybe the entire thing is just bigger.

It's an interesting concept. The helmet is pretty damn ugly tho. I wonder if they tried two smaller mirrors coming off the sides of the helmet near the top instead of directly off the top.

I've never heard of them. Fwiw, I'm a big believer in scorpion helmets. Many are certified by DOT, SNELL, and ECE, and all have nice features for their respective price ranges, making them good bang for your buck.
