New from NJ...soon to be FL!

What's up Ninja goers, names Shawn and I'm 19 residing in the lovely(not) state of NJ. I'm going to be moving to FL in probably a month or two, great riding weather lol

I recently got a 2001 Ninja 250 with 7K on it, my first street bike. I've been riding dirt bikes/quads since 9, used to be heavy into riding then I got into a car accident and messed up my back...so no more dirt for me. I came across this ninja for a good deal so I picked it up. It's been sitting over the winter so first thing I did was the oil and filter, plugs, carb clean/rebuild and fuel filter. Enough blabing here's some pics

Before last winter

Once I got her home and started cleaning

All back together..for now

I would love to start moding her, but I plan on selling this and my civic to get a 2010 250r very soon.

Aloha and welcome, Shawn.

MSF and ATGATT?

shim the carbs and change the tires, if you have not... you'll be glad you did.

No MSF here, I can handle my own

I'm actually in the process of getting street gear now, I'm not stupid enough to ride without it. I've seen what happens when squids go down and I'm not about that, lol. I'm getting the AGV k3 Dreamtime helmet and Shift Racing Hybrid X gloves. I'm also going to be getting armor, for protection and support for my back. I've been looking at the Alpinestar Bionic S 2 jacket, probably going to end up getting it because it looks like what I'd want in armor.

I would love to start modding it, but like I said I'm deadset on a 09-10 250r so there wouldn't be any point in putting money into this bike before I sell/trade it in. I have tonsss in store for the new bike though

Well I do haha i kid i kid.

But I've been on bikes since forever, including stunting at one point, so I'm confident in my riding abilities. Plus I don't plan on riding like a dick lol. I like bikes from a mechanical aspect, same with cars which I'm big into..putting them together is almost more fun then using them!

well, I was riding for over 40 years before I had a chance to take an MSF course. I felt, mostly like you, I knew everything due to my awesomeness.

I can tell you, I was wrong and learned a lot of things that I thought I knew, but didn't. You and I are completely different, but from your description of your background, I think we're more alike than you think. If you have a chance to take the course for free, I highly advise it. It is not a waste of time and can possible help to save your life one day. Riding a street bike on the road is nothing like what you've experienced as a dirt bike rider or as a cage driver.

Well, I am pretty awesome hahaha

But, in my defense, I used to ride my dirt bikes on the road, a lot lol. I do very much so understand what you're saying though, and if I can take the MSF course for free then I will definetly take it. I know I still have a lot to learn about riding street, I actually really wanted a 600/750 for the longest time, but I know I would probably end up getting in trouble, or killed. Plus I've been a big Kawi guy for years, so when I saw the new 250r I knew I'd be content for a while. This bike was a good deal, and will help contribute to the new bike fund

I really would like to turbo it down the road, but that's a whole different story

I'm guessing I would have to talk to Alex about maybe becoming a vendor for the forum? I'm going to be starting up my powder coating and media blasting business once I'm in Florida so being a vendor I could give discounts to forum members and stuff.

I the checked with their dmv and its still required

I got 2 carb rebuild kits and allen head bolts for the bowls, got it all buttoned up today and she's running. Tomorrow I'm gonna play around with the mixture screws a little because I think its running on the lean side, and ill probably end up shimming the needles a little(thanks kkim).

Thanks Snake

Old

New

Turns out the petcock is dripping, gonna go to the Kawi dealer tomorrow and get a new 'packing', the rubber piece with 4 holes in it, because mine has a few small tears in it, hopefully that's the problem since it's pretty cheap.

I suppose I should make a seperate thread to document this instead of this one, I probably will once I get some more pictures lol
