Hi From Boston
Hello,
I just got my first bike, an 2007 Ninja 250. It only had 1700 miles on it, and it looks nearly new. I'm pretty excited, although I've only ridden it twice so far. I took the MSF course two years ago, but have only ridden a bike on the street once before this week, so its been a bit of a adventure so far. I went out this evening after work and put a whopping 17 miles on the bike.... and just now (3 hours later) realized I left the petcock open. Oops. If anyone is in Boston, please say hello. I'm in Somerville right now. Here is a picture of my bike: |

Aloha and welcome, Josh.
If you have the owner's manual, I suggest you read it. You don't need to switch the gas to "off" when you are done riding as the fuel petcock is vacuum operated and no fuel will flow if the bike is not running. You might consider retaking the MSF course if it's free in your area, just to brush up. have fun, ride safe. |

I don't think retaking the MSF course is free here, but I'll check. I definitely would like additional formal training. There are a couple of 'advanced' courses as well, I might take one of those. |

I was just in Boston/Cambridge a week ago. Seems like a nice place as long as you don't go to the immediate north of town (up 93). Scary neighborhoods up there.

So I went out riding today. In the last two days (and some change), I've put about 100 miles on the bike. I'm not really comfortable going over about 40 yet, but I had a blast on some of the inter-town roads here in Boston.
I had a few scares and startles today though. At one point a light went from Green to Yellow to Red really fast, and I slammed on the brakes. The rear started to slide out, so I clutched and eased off a bit, and I got a hold of it. What makes that happen? Did I step on the rear brake too hard? Another scare came with this tricky oval rotary, was in the rotary and I wanted to take an exit, and a limo stopped to let me out, but completely hidden behind the limo was another car, which came barreling into the rotary and was heading for the same exit I wanted... I slowed down, but was so startled I probably couldn't have stopped if I wanted too. Luckily, the lady saw me and slowed enough that I got out of the rotary first. I'm having a hard time seeing directly behind me. Visibilty to the sides is ok though. Is that normal for Ninjettes, or bikes in general, or do I have the mirrors adjusted wrong? Any suggestions on making it easier to see? Since I'm riding so slowly, I'd like to be able to know I'm creating a train of cars, so I can pull over and let them pass. |

Welcome, I'm in burlington right now moving to Medford/Malden/Cambridge area soon.
Coon isn't Tufts in medfed (medford). I think its most stock 250's have a hard time seeing behind, you learn to do the "chicken dance" to get your elbows out of the way to see behind. PS: I may potentially drive by your bike everyday. Are you on the Somerville/Medford line right near Wellington on the street the runs next to the water? |

I've been doing the elbow wavy thing, but it usually doesn't work for me, I guess I'm too big. Are there better mirrors? I know people suggest bar-end mirrors, but I can see the bar-ends without moving my head, so that seems like a bad idea... No, that's not me, I'm over near Davis Sq on Highland and my bike is parked in a garage most of the time... |

I'm not sure if ALL '06's and '07's had that scheme, but all the ones I looked at did. I only wanted a blue one, so I only looked for them, but I did see quite a few in that scheme. I'm guessing those last years Kawa only offered 1 or two colors.
