Sounds like metal scraping at high RPM?

Whenever I am at around 10k RPM or higher my bike makes a noise that sounds like metal scrapping or dragging against something. Anyone know what this could be?

Bike moving at speed or just parked on center stand?

Chain well lubed?

You can try and diagnose the problem while the engine is running, bike parked on the centerstand.. even while it's raining

Push down on the clutch lever when it starts making the noise... it's probably that vibrating. Give a search, it's a common issue.

Thats when my bike has a jingling metal sound.. now I'm thinking it could be the clutch level like the other guys were saying?

Does it sound like an engine problem or something external?

If its internal, Cam chain tensioner maybe?

I had a bad master link on a chain that would sometimes scrape the sprocket cover as it passed around the front sprocket.

Mine makes a jingling noise too around 9k rpm. I think it's the timing chain

Same here! Let me know if you figure out what it is. It's not a steady rattle its sort of a sporadic jingle.

Now that we're on the subject of clutch levers, how much play should there be in the clutch lever? On my 01, there seems to be about half an inch or so of movement of the lever before I see some movement on the transmission. Should there be that much? I'm assuming that its slack in the clutch cable. I haven't ridden the bike yet, just trying to go over any possible problems before I take it on the road.
