Mix and match Tire question

I had new tires put on my bike last Spring. They have about 4000 miles on them. The rear has a little life left in it, but the front is barely worn. So, my question is can I get a new rear and leave the front alone?

as long as you use a like construction type tire with it. ie...radials with radials, bias ply with bias ply.

some will even say to use the same brand/model as the front.

Yep. I usually go through at least 2 rear tires for every front.
