I've paid sales tax on my bike and car but never property tax. I never heard of them asking for property tax on anything other than land before. I looked it up and on wikipedia it can be on moving man-made objects, but most state gov pages just talk about the property taxes on land.

Surprised me when I got the bill last week. The county values the bike @ $510. Made a mistake, the tax bill was actually $3.22. County Tax is .57 per $100 and .06 per $100 for the fire department when combined adds up to $3.22.
Paid $1200 for the bike with 2100 miles on it earlier this year. Lots of bang for the buck! Fixed annual cost: Annual inspection:$13.60 Property Tax: $3.22 Insurance $110.00 License Tags: $18.00 Total: $144.82 |

Hopefully the county will not value the bike as high as you have to pay for it. The tax office should be able to estimate the tax due.

Is it called excise tax or is that just vehicles? Shockingly, CA has no excise tax on vehicles (unless I'm blindly paying it on my registration). I remember in MA, it was a few hundred a year which I thought was ridiculous.

"If" Missouri has a property tax, it will be charged "annually" in addition to the sales tax that is paid "once" when you buy the new bike. I am not a tax expert, this has been my experience in NC. Talk to the local DMV where you buy the tags to see what the tax rate is when buying a new motorcycle. Hope this helps! Want to see photos of the new ride, too! |

Same as here. After paying the one time state sales tax of 5% (or $300.00 max) you will then have to pay county property tax on the vehicle (the times and amounts will change some if you are transfering your tag from another vehicle). You will pay property tax to the county every year before you can get your tag sticker.

I guess you learn something new everyday. Never knew property tax was on anything more than land and homes. I have had vehicles registered in AZ, PA, and FL and don't ever recall seeing a property tax on the bill for registration. Of course FL now has ridiculous prices on registration and such so it's hard to notice lol.

no property tax here in DE on autos.. sales tax when you buy it which is 3.75% of what you paid or nada , whichever is greater. then $15 a year for registration. can go up to 5yrs registration at once on new vehicles then every 2yrs after.
