I wave if they wave but I dont initiate. thats how I usually treat motorcycles too. I feel it's more important to keep my hands on the bars and my eyes on the road than to say hi to some dude(et) I don't know

We all deal with the same hazards on the road, so of course. A few scooters around show great surprise when a "big bike" actually waives at them. Then again, I always waive unconditionaly. I don't care if they waive back...

I wave unless I'm clutching, like turning at an intersection. Then, I'll nod. Not to scooters tho. If they waved to me I'd wave back, but has yet to happen. Same with trikes/spyders. Yeah, they deal with all the same things we do, except for one: they'll never drop their ride.

It will happen...I have had 2 wave at me...a Motorcycle Nevada Highway Patrol Officer and Motorcycle North Las Vegas Officer wave...I was shocked at first then I was like...that was really cool...and kept riding.

I'll only waive to a scooter if they waive first. I waive to everybody else, including cruisers, no matter what. Even motorcycle cops. I gotta say I get off on the latter when a motorcycle cop waives back it makes my day.

If everyone had the mentality of "I'll wave back if they wave first" noone would wave... luckily not everyone is like that! but those of you who think that way and don't get a wave from another rider should consider maybe they think the same way. I wave to everything that isn't a car because we're all out to enjoy riding whether its a loud ass cruiser, a goldwing, a super sport, a scooter or a 3 wheeler its not driving. I enjoy driving too depending on the vehicle but I'd never be able to have both hands on the wheel if I had to wave to every other car on the road... + most of them are texting and fighting with their kids in their 10mpg suburbans on 22 inch rims lol, how many riders do you see texting while riding or at a stop light..?

I'm a bit nervous about waving to them and breaking their focus. They always look super concentrated and wear nothing but t shirts, shorts and a dinky lid.

I had that happen to me Monday; I told the guy I was headed East (I was) and he laughed and I pulled away.

The odd thing is that I was on my 110cc scoot at the time and he on a 49cc scoot; I hadn't taken possession of the Ninja yet. The 110cc requires the M cert and pulls 53mph (GPS) with or without passenger before the rev limiter kicks in. I like to taunt Prii with my MPG stats and then leave them behind at lights (102mpg).

Why not?

Our 250's are basically scooters too with a sport bike dress.

Anyway, I always wave to everyone, but I noticed that the HD guys most of the time they don't even response.

Some of those scooters are huge! 400s and 650s? I've seen them at the shops, and they look bigger than some 2-wheeled couches!

Not even close. Ninja's are NOT scooters. Scooters can't even come close to the performance of a Ninja. They are ridden transportation and not for fun. So most of the time they don't know what you are doing when you wave. But, like I said,if they wave first, I'll wave back.

BRB, going to tell my wifes PCX to stop being fun. And will try to erase the fun memories of riding across the country two up on a silverwing.

i rock a Honda Ruckus and when you spot another one rolling around we all go berserk!.... but then again a Ruckus isn't an average scooter anyway. totally different breed of craziness.

around here i get a lot of love from the other scooters and oddly enough the HD guys. any run in i've had with a sports bike has ended with them snaring at me, blipping the throttle and taking off real fast. only one guy on a cbr600f4i showed any love but that might've been for the shared brand.

i dont waive a lot unless it's at another scooter. everybody else just looks down on it. i show love if they show love.

If it has a Manual transmission I wave, so that's a general No to scooters unless they wave first.

And I'm starting to give up on waving to GoldWing riders, they might as well be cagers, encased in their 2 wheeled bubble Cadillac on 2 wheels with the air conditioning and stereo blasting. They rarely wave back in my area.

The big HD cruiser guys are much better about waving back, but the chopper heads are about a 50/50 shot, some are just dicks to anything that's not a true Harley.

I used to wave at scooters. But 99% of the time they wouldn't wave back or yet alone notice me. Now I stopped waving to scooters unless they initiate the wave first. To me waving to a scooter is pretty much waving to someone on a bicycle. Riding a scooter is nothing like riding a motorcycle. Hence the reason anyone can ride a 50cc scooter, but you need a separate motorcycle license.

I will initiate a wave with a Honda Ruckus though, because those are just about as badass as you can get with a scooter.

The only motorcycles I won't wave to are people being squids/assholes. I was going up a street to my friend's house, and there was some guy on a gixxer with no gear going about 50 in a residential (20) main street, weaving in and out of traffic. He waved to me, I just shook my head. I will wave to choppers/bobbers and harleys, and aI'll get a wave back about half the time. That tells me about half of those riders are older guys going through a mid-life crisis or genuinely enjoys riding. The other half is the stereotypical loud pipes bar-hopper.
Also, I'll wave to the bigger scooters (450/600cc) that can hit the highway. Other than that I won't initiate a wave to a scooter.

True, and now that you mention it, I've had more guys wave to me on bicycles than scooters. I've also had a few guys in cars wave, but they usually catch me so off guard that I don't have time to wave back. I even had a pedestrian do it the other day.

I did have one cop wave back, but usually I try not to wave at cops because you never know when one of them will either take it the wrong way, or completely flip out on you for taking your hand off the bar while moving.

I had a friend get yelled at and ticketed by a cop just because he didn't put both feet down at a red light, he kept his right foot on the brake and the non-riding cager cop went ballistic, claiming that he didn't "maintain full control" over the bike at the light. He was just itching to get into a fight and give a bike a ticket that day.

I used to wave to everyone until I realized that most riders don't wave back. Now I'll only wave if it's a sport bike (at least most have a tendency to wave back) or if the other rider waved first.
I don't waste my time with cruisers, though.
I remember passing by a group of them once and only one dude actually acknowledged me. There had to be at least 20+, excluding their passengers. The dude all the way toward the end of the pack was the one who waved at me. LOL He probably didn't know about cruiser etiquette.

Eric only drag races his 250 constantly trying to beat his own record of fastest 250, so he's running nitrous and all kinds of goodies on it that are good for speed, but bad for mpg. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he broke 121 mph?

One time I was behind this guy on a scooter in traffic and he had his blinker going for a while. I pulled next to him and gave him the hand signal for telling him his blinker was still on and he promptly waved back.

Ooooohhhh.. that makes much more sense.

121mph is intense!
20 more than i could squeeze out of mine without going into the red zone..

I always wave at everybody. I do ride my bicycle more than the motorcycle--less complicated, less gear, quiet and sedate--then again, I'm an old guy. If I want to go a couple hundred miles or so, I take the motorcycle.

Most of my riding is five miles or less. For that the bicycle is fine. I wave at motorcycles and scooters when I am on my bicycle. I usually try to ride at least 15 miles a day depending on weather.
