wheelie!

driving around this morning I was sitting at a light and thought to my self ; self, I wonder how fast you can launch a 250 from a complete stop. So i was sitting there holding it around 5k in 1st, light turned green and I dropped the clutch. Definitely wasn't expecting what happened next, front end popped about 2 feet in the air and shot forward, luckily I was able to hang on/ keep control. drove off with mixed emotions of MAN that was COOL!!!/ I didn't know this bike could do that/ HOLY CRAP THAT WAS FREAKY!!!

It sure can . I did something similar when I began riding; I'm pretty sure I had it above 5k rpm though. You must be light.

It will wheelie at 5K. Not to balance point, but it will wheelie at 5K.
The secret is to dump the clutch as fast as you possibly can.
Don't say you learned it from me..
It does standing wheelies much easier.
Change the gears around and it will accelerate like a GSXR and have tons of power for stunting like you wouldn't believe.

I just popped my first real one today, one where I had to look around the side to see where I was going. I was just shy of the balance point and came down when I hit redline.

Felt good

Lean back. Drop clutch faster. The wheel should come up a tiny bit at least at that RPM.
You can also use a technique called "Bouncing it". (preload the forks before you clutch up to help)
Start from rolling along at 4mph.. and be careful. If you can't do it, might not be time yet to try.
This guy can lift a scooter with no power and he's more than 132lbs.
Surely you can find a way to work it on your ninjette. don't forget to cover the rear brake.

The problem is,
If you are looking at your RPM gauge to do a wheelie, you are doing it wrong.
You need lots more practice to where you can simply feel what RPM will create a good wheelie for you when you dump the clutch.

You have to want it, know how to do it, and commit. Much like many other aspects of riding a bike. Be careful, if you aren't on a closed course with all your gear (or even if you are) you can get really hurt and mess everything up for years to come for yourself!

Don't bother looking around at the gauges and the bike. You have to feel it. It should become second nature with enough practice. Lean back, cover brake, clutch in while rolling, rev and wait a second and then dump and try to balance out. You have to think about 4-6 different things at once while riding a proper wheelie... but not really be thinking of them at all. It has to become second nature.

Lots and lots of practice. Don't rush it.
Practice wheelie escape routines first. Learn to jump off your bike safely and also how to practice wheelies while using your rear brake to bring you down so you don't "loop it". If you can't get off the bike safely while doing a wheelie, it's probably too fast to be doing a wheelie and should only be on the track. I'd suggest properly gearing your stuntbikes for safety and ease on the engine and many other reasons.

wheelies to 30mph and faster on the street will get you killed or in trouble.
Once you learn it on the street you'll be doing it all over and you'll eventually T-bone somebody you didn't see pulling out in front of you and die. "Drink" responsibly.

You mean by covering the brake, you use the rear brake to reduce the height of the wheelie and bring you back to the ground?

All the above, and I'll add the following: When you pop the front wheel in the air the first few times, it feels 150% higher than it actually is...

I'm heavy, and had a larger front and smaller rear sprockets... It wouldn't come up at 5k for me, that's for sure! But stock, leaning way back? Maybe.

So I was reading this thread... and when I was riding today, 5000rpm and drop clutch on first came across my mind on a clear road. I tried this on a red light with no traffic and sure enough, front lifted up and I shot forward. That was awesome and I was able to control my ninjette pretty well. But I don't think I will be doing that regularly. It was awesome though. BTW I weigh about 140lb. and 5000rpm did do the trick from a standstill.

Not that I condone wheelies, but you shouldn't do them from a dead stop.

Correct...

You want the bike to be moving along at 5mph or a little more before you wheelie. This helps to stay straight on the bike from the centrifugal force of the wheels.

Stand up wheelie requires lower RPM but is scarier and a bit harder to do/learn.

I am 235lbs and can do one from a stand still at a 5k clutch dump, can do a rollling one if I cruise at 3k and dump the clutch between 8k and 10 (10k is close to balance point) so yea it's easy to do, stop talking out of your ass.
