headlight modulator + brake light flasher

what do you think about those?

do you know anybody that has them?

I am looking into those devices and some advice would be greatly appreciated.

I;ve used them on a couple of my bikes. I really like them. website called comagination.com offers them for many bikes (not sure for 250's tho). What we did on my cruiser is, hooked up the high beam to flash, but low not to. Also had a sensor in it that if it was dark, or you go into a tunnel it doesnt flash. I think its great $90 spent.

I am an Electrical Engineer, so I am kinda thinking about my 3 options: rolling my own, or purchasing a ready made solution from the guys you mentioned, or doing nothing.

$90 for the pair is a pretty hard price to beat for prototype quantities but I can make it to be the exact way I want it to be.

Lets take the stop light flasher for example. I believe it would be possible to make so you can flash the tail light and break light, or only the break light. Also, it should be relatively easy to make it with selectable "flash rate", eg. flash 5 times for 5 sec or w/e you want. One disadvantage is that it won't be nearly as waterproof or as small as the solution offered by comagination.. Ultimately this would be a way as giving the open design to the community and contributing back. Tell me if anybody is interested in that.

or, if they offer no addition safety... there is not point in doing it !

PS. actually the stuff from Tri looks pretty good !

i hate headlight modulators... just my opinion.
brake lights though, totally awesome. if you can do it yourself it will only cost you like $10 in parts... just seal it with epoxy when you're done. ain't no water gettin in there.

Though I have witnessed first hand that brakelight modulators tend to piss off cagers who follow too closely...

Atleast they see it though... right?

haha I would, I am just kinda worried about the reliability of the connections. This thing would be subjected to quite a bit of vibrations. A working solid brake light is better then a non-working one

do you mean instead of flashing just the bright filament, flashing the running filament at the same time so it goes full bright/off? or are you thinking about making a tail light that flashes continuously? the second option is not legal. it can only flash for a short time when the brake is applied. plus, if the point of the flashing is to get attention, you only want it to flash when you actually need to be seen; when you're braking

hey, I decided against rolling my own and buying the ready made solution. I'll update if I decide to make something. I have some ideas for future, safety related projects.

Thanks for the tip quanttrom! I just ordered mine a few minutes ago. It's on sale right now for $20, and shipping was free

I'll try to remember to update here after I install it.
