Does the Stebel magnum tm80 horn need a relay ?

Does a single Stebel magnum tm80 horn need a relay ?

These folks both used relays. I don't know if one is required, recommended, or unnecessary.

The horns in those links are different.
Those guys are using the Stebel Nautilus /Wolo "Bad Boy" horn that draws a current of 18A
The horn I mentioned above draws 6 A

To get the maximum effect (you wanted a louder horn, yes?) you should run a new power line of heavier than stock gauge and a relay. Is it necessary? No, not if hte amps drawn are equal or less than that of the stock horn.

Why don't you just hook it up and see if it works? If it turns out you need a relay, go spend the $8 and get one.

Dont want to risk burning out my wires without a relay ( if its needed)

Update : Looks like you can use a single tone Magnum tm80 without a relay just fine.
If you want to use the tm80 twins (hi-lo tone) you would need a relay

Well glad you figured it out but you could have just wired it with a fuse and not had to worry about your wires. That's what fuses are for.

Actually, no.

Fuses are designed to protect wiring from component malfunctions that cause more current to flow through the circuit than it was designed to handle. The circuit itself still needs to be designed to handle the current of the components it supplies.

I didn't think I needed to explain that you'd use a fuse rated for less than the lowest rated component in the circuit. Then again I guess if you knew what the wires and switch were rated at, you wouldn't need to ask if a relay was needed in the first place. Anyway according to the diagram in the sticky at the top of the tech section, the stock horn draws 2.5a.
