I think it is a new anti-theft device. See, you would use the chain to secure your bike to a pole, tree, or other fixed object.

Yeah nobody really takes care of their chains like they should. (every 300mi)
It's like the tires.. also very important. I don't like master links period. I build all my chains. Master links have no place on a motorcycle. Not the first time I said this. You guys with master links on race bikes are crazy. Specially when you safety wire the entire bike. The GSXr has a master link on it and it's making me nervous already Imma go buy a DID for this sucker and use the breaker on it. Nothing will ever happen to it then for sure. Just use the cheap chinese ebay chain tools and push the pins for your own safety. Learn about how to do it right too. Don't trust somebody else to do it for you.
