HUGE Bill from the DMV! HUH??

Ok, so even though I just registered my bike not even a month ago, I just got a bill from the DMV for registration renewal. Thats all well and good cause the tags expire in Feb. The thing I don't understand is that the amount due on the statement is $6547..... Woah there. I didn't even pay that for the bike!!! Think it's a mistake that they will willingly fix if I bring it into the office? Anyone have anything like this before? I swear, the DMV rain cloud keeps following me!!

Yes, absolutely take that in for there is no way they can charge you for more than the vehicle is worth to just register it.

Absolutely. I mean, maybe it should be and it just printed wrong... The pink slip says $287 under the fees paid label... Maybe that should be the reg costs..?.? But yea, I'm sure it doesn't say $65.47.

Wow. In Oregon my registration was $182. And I thought THAT was too much. There's no way they can charge $6k for a 250. I would most certainly make a phone call there.

Okay, so I looked at it again today...

Under fees it says:
Registration fee - $71
License Fee - $6466
Weight Fee - $0
Special Plates Fee - $0
County/District Fees - $10
Owner Responsibility Fees - $0

So It's the license fee... What is that? I'm way confused now...

Dude. You've been referring to your tractor-trailer as a Ninjette this whole time- haven't you?

Ok, here's what I could find out on that. First look at what their site says about the VLF, it's not much and imo not as clear as it should be. Then use your information on the second site to figure out what your fee should be. If it's the same then someone at the DMV is really trying to screw you.

Well that's what seams to be the problem! The DMV made a mistake and said my ninjette is worth $110,000! Woah don't I wish! I'd sell that think and but 100 ninjettes for all my friends! Haha Currently sitting on hold with the DMV field office. Hopefully they get it figured out soon!

Wow, who in the hell made that error? And where the hell did they get that number? If that were me I'd be worried about my job because of how big the numbers are it COULD be a very big deal with their boss.

Because of their mistake this is what I now have to do.

Make appointment to go to DMV
Take pink slip and registration renewal papers to window
Explain what Happened
Fill out a statement of facts about how much the bike is worth and where I got it and for how much.
They'll send in the papers and wait to hear back from whoever
Once it's cleared I then have to bring the bike in for a VIN verification
Once it's verified they will then issue a new title

This is NUTS. Just because of their mistake I have to go and take care and clean it up. I'm so extremely fed up with the DMV right now. My tax dollars are going to pay some idiot who can't read clearly written on a piece of paper!?! Really California. Get your **** together. GAHHHHH

I would also write all this down with names and/or employee numbers, times, dates, everything. Then take all this information and bring it up to your area state representative about how the DMV is not doing their job, forcing you to correct their mistakes while they get paid by your tax dollars. This sort of mistake needs to be internally investigated with the problem being found and corrected by them instead of you. It's their mistake being made on YOUR tax money and therefore they should be eating up the time/cost to fix it, not you.

But that's just my
