I just took the permit test for VA and that question was on there. The answer is open up space in front of you.
Couple other ones I can remember offhand: What should you do when riding over a bump? Best way to tell road conditions at night? (I put look at tail lights of cars ahead bouncing) Body position during a swerve Body position during low speed maneuvers Fastest way to stop (both brakes) What to do when you get a flat front tire Stopping in the rain That's all I can remember offhand, my test was only 25 questions. I didn't study at all and didn't even realize I was going to take that test. But since they wouldn't give me the license, I just took the test on the fly and got a permit. 20/25 correct without even realizing what would be on it. You'll be fine. |

Anyway, when I took my Massachusetts motorcycle permit test, many of the questions weren't even about motorcycles! They were about junior operating laws and stuff about how much alcohol is in a glass of beer/wine/mixed drink, and other DUI type questions. So study your chemistry and biology! |

Lets see if I can get one right this time.....
What should you do when riding over a bump? = Stand on the pegs with your knees bent and butt off the seat. Speed bumps are great that way. A Ninja can safely hit a speed hump at twice the posted speed. Cars can't. So that is a great way to deal with tailgaters. One day I had a car tailgating me and I sped up and zipped across a 25mph speed bump at 60 mph with the car on my tail. I could hear parts coming off the car as I went down the road. Best way to tell road conditions at night? (I put look at tail lights of cars ahead bouncing) = Bouncing tail lights I suppose. Its better to not overrun your headlights. That is, drive slower. Body position during a swerve = Vertical. You don't lean while swerving. You just countersteer. Body position during low speed maneuvers = Counterbalanced. Fastest way to stop (both brakes) = Failing to recognize an idiot that's about to turn in front of you and plowing into him. What to do when you get a flat front tire = Call the auto club. I carry a plug kit and CO2 inflator, but if its still flat, the bike isn't going anywhere on its own. Stopping in the rain = Same as stopping any other way, just slower and more cautious.

Lol. I'm pretty sure the last few weren't very accurate. I believe you use your rear brake to slow down if your front tire blows.

Here are the official flat tire instructions: 1. Front tire air loss is particularly dangerous because it will make your motorcycle difficult to steer. Shift your weight as far back as possible when the front tire loses air pressure. 2. Expect the back of the motorcycle to lurch from side to side if the rear tire starts to go flat. Stay seated as you are. 3. Hold the hand grips tightly and concentrate on steering. Maintain as straight a course as possible. 4. Gradually apply the brake on the tire that is not flat (provided you're sure which one that is). Wait until the motorcycle slows way down, then edge toward the side of the road and stop. But I still carry a plug kit and inflator.

Like another poster said, there is probably a "how many ounces of alcohol in a bottle of tequila if you drink it upside down on a Friday night" question on there too.
