Ninjette "Stolen"

This might be a bit long, sorry.

So, I rode my bike to work yesterday and parked it out back where I usually park my car (note: this is not a shady area, or closed off, it's out in the open, it's also the middle of the day). Right before I got off work a friend called and asked if I wanted to go to lunch. So I said sure and he told me he'd come pick me up. So I left my bike parked at work and we went to lunch.

About 2 hours later we drive back to my work so I can pick up my bike and ride home. As we came around the backside of the building, there was no bike waiting for me.

Now, I can't describe in words what it felt like to not see my bike sitting there. It was one of the worst feelings ever. Probably a mix of anger, shock, despair, disbelief. I don't know. Anyway, lucky for me, the day before I had gotten my bike insured (full coverage). So as I sat there in disbelief, I was somewhat comforted to know that I had insurance against theft.

So I get out of my buddy's car and go to walk inside to ask any of my co-workers if they had seen or heard anything and as I open the door, much to my surprise (and relief) there was my beautiful bike sitting inside the doorway!

Turns out that one of my more crafty co-workers (also a good friend) had moved my bike inside as a joke. I had the handlebars locked, so he had to work pretty hard for it, but he was determined.

Anyway, I was so relieved to see my bike sitting there, unharmed. I've only had it about 2 weeks. I was also pretty pissed off at my co-worker, but looking back on it now, I can laugh.

lol...I was expecting a bunch of people to shout "Surprise" celebrating your birthday or promotion or something. Seems like your friend is quite the prankster...I'd keep my eye on him if I were you and perhaps even pay him in kind.

I would have gone freaking crazy...like you. I would have laughed later on, but when you have an attachment to something like that and it disappears, it's hard on us. It's not like it's a pencil you accidentally left somewhere...

Haha that was good story. At first I was like 'oh no his bike actually got stolen' then near the end of the story I was like 'haha'.

You gotta get back at your friend!!! Nobody messes with a man's Ninja and gets away with it. Get him good.

@El Prodigio: I know the feeling. I thought I had left my keys in the bike all day once. I ran through the streets to see if it was still there... it was... and my keys had just fallen out of my pocket at work. My heart skipped a few beats though.

Get his car key and have it cut. Each day slightly move stuff in his car I.e seat distance from wheel, internal mirror, put in gear, ash tray open. He'll go crazy thinking someones breaking in.

That's what bothered me the most, but luckily he was extremely careful with it. I was a bit worried though because he has laid down a bike before...

And I agree with the rest of you. I need to find a way to get him back. I'm open to suggestions. Haha.

That is truly evil genius and I love it. The OP should go with this option.

Haha, I like this option as well. It would actually be pretty easy to do. He leaves his car keys lying on the desk all the time and wouldn't even notice if I "borrowed" them for a few minutes.

The lads have done that one on me, I had the bike parked at a mate's house & a chain through the wheel, the lads managed to put a biscuit tin lid under the each wheel & slide it around the yard.

It went walkabouts a few times that night.

As revenge we turned the ringleader's car 180° while he was asleep in it

My sister used to drive a VW beetle and so did her friend. The keys matched perfect she drove the car down the street and 200 metres and re-parked it.

Time to pee in your co-worker's door locks when it gets cold outside so it freezes and they can't get into their car.

Clear Cordial in the windscreen wiper sprayer container......great for summer

or valve remover tool, loosen the valve, leave him with a flat and laugh your ass off as he just can't keep the air in the tire.

Do you know if his car has electric mirrors? If not, definitely move the off-side mirror out of position. If he does have electric mirrors, chances are they'll fold in, so fold the off-side mirror in.

Or definitely get his keys and move the seat around, mess with the steering wheel tilt, or my personal favorite, turn his stereo ALL the way up, so when he turns on the accessory, he craps his pants.

If he ever leaves a window slightly open (or get his keys and roll it down slightly) and get the refill bags for bean bag chairs and dump away!!! It'll take a lot to fill up the car but it's a major b*%&$ to clean up. That stuff clings to everything.

on top of that....get baby powder (or flour) and dump it in the vents. Then turn the a/c or heat on full blast then when he starts the car SURPRISE!!!!

Well, I'm not one for pranks of that caliber. Basically I wouldn't do anything that I wouldn't want done to me. I sure as hell wouldn't like to clean up bean bag filling or baby powder from my car.

I dont know what I would do if my bike were actually stolen. Well, I suppose I would sit down on the curb and have a cry about it for a bit before phoning the police.

Has anyone looked into getting LoJack for their bike/car/anything? I wonder if its expensive.

The thing is that anyone (other than the little scroates who wheelie them to death in a field) lifiting a bike will be putting it into a van, trying to get GPS signal inside a van is not that easy. any systems I've seen have to have an external antenna (at least not one buried inside the bike) and the wiring set-up would be very obvious to anyone who knows what they're looking at.

In Ireland higher power bikes and KTMs are regularly targeted by a combination of knackers (Irish gypsies) and Nigerian gangs who box them up and ship them out either intact to be sold on, or in pieces to be parted out
The GPS trackers don't seem to work once it's placed in a shipping container.

I've been considering buying this GPS tracker and wiring it up to my bike. I'd put it in a difficult to get to place like under the tank or maybe near the battery

Fill his car with balloons! It doesn't damage anything and will be funny. Or just grab his keys like others have mentioned and mess with little things. And turn the windshield wipers on, A/C all the way on full blast, radio all the way up, move seat, mirrors, put the headrests on backwards, adjust steering wheel, parking brake on. And things like that. Be creative!!!

Sounds like you should have an inside parking space. I would put the bike where your friend put it. Apparantly it is OK to park in the hall. I bring my road bicycle into the building and park it in my office.

I don't have LoJack, but I did install the Scorpio i900 two-way alarm with the optional Proximity Sensor and Ignition Disable.

-It was a bit spendy at around $400 , but it definitely gives me peace of mind when I leave it outside of my apartment (its actually inside right now sitting right next to me).

Is this it?

I was thinking about getting this one. Not sure if it's any good. But there are a bunch of youtube videos on it.

Yes, that is the one I bought. As you saw, you can get it for $299 without the proximity sensor and ignition disable, but I thought those were kinda cool and important. I spent 3-4 weeks researching alarms and the i900 is the best there is. The other 2 ways sounded pretty cheaply made and many of them stopped working properly or drained the battery in a day or two. If you are looking to save money, I was looking at the below link, it had decent reviews and also has the two way paging. I just copied the first link I found it at, so you might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere.
