I would check CL and ebay for used engines and transmissions instead of buying a whole new pre-gen.

You could also just buy a low (ish) miles motor and do a swap. |

someone should inform that seller that his ninja was $3500 brand spanking new. I wouldn't pay more than $2000 for a pregen. Period.

I would guess it's a shop not a dealer? idk.
The shop I use had a mint gzxr600 with some awesome parts on it, all done by them with a professional paintjob of your choice. 10,000 miles, $4k. If I had the money when I saw it, I woulda bought it. It was a salvage that they used their frame machine to fix, new body work, new exhaust system, new forks, PCIII, all the goodies. They said the owner was debating buying it as a personal track bike. My dad took one look at it, saw my face, and immediately said, "no I'm not loaning you money". |

I was going to get a 600cc+ bike, but with gas going up, I think I'll hold on to my bike. It's so hard to give up 65mpg right now.
When I crunch the numbers, it becomes crazy for me to give up my bike. Not to mention the fun factor. |

I don't understand your reasoning. Gas prices ALWAYS go up. Sure they may dip down for a few weeks, but in the end, they always end up higher than they were a couple months ago. It's how the oil industry gets us to accept the higher prices. When we had our last spike that was from $3-$3.50, people were outraged and wanted to do their national "let's not buy gas for a day" shtick. Those events are worthless. Now, we're nearing $5 a gallon in some parts of the country without so much as a peep from the same people who were outraged last year. They got used to it being $4/gallon and it will only keep happening.
So, if you are putting off buying a 600 now, you'll probably never end up with one .

To those of you getting 65+ mpg, how? I just accuratly checked mine and im getting right at about 50 mpg, which kind of suprised me, i expected more out of it. I ride it casually, with the exception of a little hard riding. I do have my needles shimmed with 2 washers under each. I was wondering, with the warmer weather coming along, will removing one washer even it out? Or is it the opposite effect? Anyways, i would LOVE to be getting 65mpg, i guess part of it, well alot of it is how i ride.

@gilmorec61 it's not just the shimming. It's also the fact that pregens get better mileage than newgens for some reason. I would love to say that I know why because of the timing of the valves or something, but I really don'y know why

So lets see... 30miles/11mpg=2.7gal of gas Truck 30miles/50mpg=.6gal of gas Bike With gas around $3.60 a gal right now: 2.7gal. x $3.60 = $ 9.72 Truck .6gal. x $3.60 = $ 2.16 Bike So I am basically spending $2.16 a day to save $ 7.56 a day. $7.56 x 5days a week = $37.80 savings a week $37.80 x roughly 25 days a month = $945 a MONTH!! $945 x 12 months = $11,340 a YEAR!! And thats just going to school, thats not counting going to stores, freinds, etc... Wow, i didnt know it was that much, but thats crazy! Since ive been riding my bike since January I've put somewhere around 1500 miles on it. Thats ALOT of saved money right there, i could almost buy 3 brand new ninjas with that kinda money in a year!! Well this makes me feel a little better about everything, but hope that answers your question jiggles |

Not sure really. The carbs are the same except for the needles, and the jet sizes. The pregens actually have more advanced timing and larger main jets, which doesn't make sense either that pregens get better mileage.
The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the different intake/exhaust timing that kawasaki did to beef up the midrange. |

I think if u are spending 11k per year on gas then you need to seriously reevaluate you life and that's not even the claimed total spent, that's the claimed total saved. So you pay around 15k per year for gas? Lol

I find the CBR250 seat much better than the stock newgen seat. I've done 400 mile days in it without any issues...
The newgen ninja 250 seat gave me pain after only 2 hours or so of riding. How did you sit in it for an hour at the dealership? |

Many? I've never heard complaints. Sit on a new-gen seat for a while..it isn't that amazing..a lot of people have gotten Corbins for it, myself included.
And isn't an hour a while to sit on a bike in a dealership? |
