Next bike Poll
What do you think?
Really torn between getting a SS to take to try and take to the track or a SM to commute with and do wheelies on and not give a **** about it. ATGATT though

Get a SS for the track and the bike nights and keep the Ninjette as your commuter. That's what I'm planning to do since we don't need to insure our bikes here.

"to try and take to the track"
You really have to base your decision on whether track days are honestly feasible within your lifestyle/schedule, otherwise I would definitely go supermoto Anyways good luck with whatever decision you decide, either one will be awesome. Like Liist said keep your ninjette if you get the SS |

Neither. Go with an adventure bike and travel the world with it.
They are still awesome in the twisties if you get the right one, like a BMWF800GS or a Versys. And it is completely easy to ride irresponsibly should you choose to do so.

Supermoto all the way man. Theres a TON of stuff you can do on a supermoto than on a SS, but then again a SS can do alot more stuff as well. IMO its up to you, are you the kind of person that likes adventure, or do you crave speed? I like both, but i would have to go with a supermoto, becuase i would love the idea of driving on a road, and seeing a gravel road with a ROAD CLOSED sign on it and shooting up passed it and exploring. Or just going through town and going up or down some steps to shave a few minutes of time Choice is yours man.

Don't get me wrong, the SS was very fun on the street, but if you are even a half-decent rider, you will be going much faster than you really need to be on the street. IMO, to each his own, but the next 600 (or Ducati 1199 Panigale ) I own will be a dedicated track bike. My next purchase is a supermoto. It just makes sense for the riding I do. I ride tight, twisty backroads and commute. Long-distance riding isn't something I have to do to get to the twisties and my longest commute is only about 30 miles one way. The WR250X has been on my list since I first learned about it. SS quality suspension, better brakes and more sprightly acceleration than a new-gen Ninjette makes it perfect for my needs. tl:dr - SS if you are 100% positive on track days; SM if you mostly just ride backroads.

I love both. Too hard to decide.
The SM is like a mountain bike. Does everything and is fun as balls, and doesn't mind being beat up on. SS is aggressive and attacks whatever's in it's path and is fun as h*ll up to you justin |

I voted for SuperMoto, so you get to try a really different style of motorcycle and have some fun: less expensive than the SS option too I should think. I like Floyd's adventure suggestion too... though, those bikes are scary huge.

I voted for supermoto. I'm in the same boat right now, and I'm leaning towards the SM. Cheap insurance, good on gas, and lightweight... all the things I love about the 250, but it's something different. The only thing that has me reconsidering is the seat. They aren't comfortable, and, even though there are many aftermarket options, I've read that many aren't much better.

General consensus is that supermotos are badass as **** but not really all that great for commuting unless you drive 5 minutes through the city

Nah. The Versys is only 399 pounds. The BMW F800 is 410 pounds. Very flickable. A Ducati Hypermotard (worst name for a bike ever, btw. I knew a kid in elementary school who was a hypermotard, wore a bicycle helmet all day at school and arrived on the special bus) is about the same as the Versys. A KTM 990 is heavier than either the BMW or the Versys. So is a Dorsoduro. Now a Duke640 . . .

I dont want an enduro.
A SM with a street and dirt set up would be more preferable.

the SS and SM I am looking at are all comparable in purchase price, however the SM will be more durable and easier to work on.

All sources list dry weight as 399. Wet weight may be 454. But then all the comparisons I gave (which were dry weight also) would go up, too. Apples to apples. Point is it is the same weight as most SMs, except for a few of the super light ones like the Duke.

Well that sucks. EH, you would have just found out about the SXV 5.5 and wanted it after buying the 450 anyway.
