First time on a motorcycle
So I just took my Ninja around the condo for about 10 miles or about 50 times both ways. It was awesome.... It was like the first time having sex, a little self conscious, a little hesitant, a little anxious, a little nervous, but holy hell did it feel good.
I really dont know why I didnt do this sooner, and thank god for you people and your info. If I didnt run into twist of the wrist 2 on these forums and get it and watch it 8 dozen times before I got my bike I would probably be on here talking about my first accident at an embarrassing 10 mph. I took a corner a little too fast for my noob butt and was going wide, right into a sidewalk and wall barrier. Thankfully I remembered the dvd, didnt panic, kept steady increasing throttle and just leaned more. I was no where near touching knee but it was leaned pretty good, at least for me, and boy was that exhilerating. I had to actually stop and let my heart slow down a bit. Honestly I thought it would take me a while to get it but I am getting some what proficient at up shifting and downshifting. Its just when I am doing a bunch of things at once. Like slowing to a stop at a stop sign, down shifting, turn signal, looking in all directions, checking behind me thats when I got a little boggled. So for a while I just kept it in 2nd gear and did slow rolling stops, and just concentrated on traffic and riding. Still honked my horn a couple of times while looking to cancel my turn signal. Did it once when this chick was crossing the street and I was stopping, she just looked at me and smiled. I think she thought I was doing it for her. Anyway it was a blast, just when I pulled into the parking garage I couldnt get the bike to go into neutral. Now my bike wont go into neutral, I really hope I didnt hurt it already. |

Glad to hear you had fun! you manage to get her back into Neutral? sometimes you just gotta kick harder or roll your bike forward with the clutch pulled in then try. |

zzrguy just reminded me. Are you sure the bike is in first and not in second? I made that mistake a few times: having it in second and trying to go to neutral. I wouldn't kick harder but I would definitely try the rolling part that zzr said

Are you taking it at DCTC? I signed up for the same on on the 12th and the weekend a few months ago also lol. Was going to have my bike delivered this week but it was so warm last month that I had they put it together and deliver it then lol. At least I'll have over 500miles on my belt before the course.

Haha, great thread and great analogy.
You'll have a blast in the course. And you're ATGATT I guess since you've watched Keith Code? Eventually your analogy will change. Not my line but someone bright once said, you think of your bike sometimes when having sex but you never think of sex while on the bike. THAT"S how good it can be. Welcome to the rest of your life. |

The MSF course is great!
I had put about 200 miles on my 250 before my first class, and there was still plenty of fun to be had in the course. Since it was their 08+ 250 that was at risk, it really opened me up to try leaning more and doing some crazy tight u-turns. My second class is coming up in 2 days (in the rain) and i couldn't be more excited to delve into wet weather riding on somebody else's bike. |

That's the best situation you could ask for! No point in being fairweather biker, rain happens and you'll learn to never be afraid of it - still smart about it, oil, visibility etc but your rain hesitation will be gone. Enjoy! I love riding in the rain. Massive vision killing downpours? Nope. Would only do that if I absolutely had to. |
