Long overdue review of my old 2fiddy vs cbr600rr
Hey guys,
This is long overdue but I wanted to make sure I had sufficient saddle time to be able to make a proper comparison. First of all I cannot stress enough GET SOMETHING SMALLER THAN A 600+ CC BIKE FOR YOUR FIRST BIKE. Now I'll start: I'll start with the obvious ones: - Seating is a lot sportier, will take a while to get used to the new seating position and until you do that your wrists will hurt after long rides. No helping it. - The stock seat sucks, will hurt your ass. I switched mine with a corbin and it makes a world of a difference. - The bike feels heavier and more commanding than the ninjette, and also not as flickable as the ninjette but pretty damn good. - Servicing the bike is pretty expensive, a valve check costs $600 compared to $400 paid on the ninjette for valve, brakes and oil change. - A lot of people complain about how crappy the mirrors on the ninjette is...well its the same on the cbr lol. elbow takes up half of usable space. Now onto everything else. Firstly the bike does not get blown around as much as the ninjette. It is a major major factor for me and I love the cbr for it. The cbr is also fuel injected so no waiting for it warm up. Now the power delivery is a huuugggeee difference... I CANNOT STRESS THE FACT ENOUGH. IF YOU HAVE NOT RIDDEN A BIKE BEFORE DO NOT GET IT. It took me about a day or 2 to get used to it. If you are not smooth with the clutch and throttle the bike will throw you off like a bucking horse. Brakes are also a lot lot lot more sensitive. If you cannot control it properly you will do an unintentional stoppie and have the bike fall on you. Now the Good parts...THE POWER....oh the sweet power lol. Its a huge difference when you are on the freeway and when you have a passenger. Most of the time it does not feel like the passenger is there due to the sheer power of the 600cc. The bike is also super fun on the twistys. The ninjette and the cbr would be on par at the twistys. The clutch engagement is also slightly different. You have a larger engagement zone which make the need to be properly smooth with it even more a priority or the bike um...lurches. And finally the MPG is low...only about 35-40. PS: The tires also crap out on you every 6k-8k miles. If anyone has any questions just post and I will reply!

Nice write up! I've always liked the CBR 600s but Ninjas are my clear first choice for a bike

i have an 04 250 and an 07 cbr 600...
both bikes are a lot of fun but the 250 gets more riding time because it is so comfortable for commuting, no problem on the freeway, obviously nimble in the twisties, 60 mpg...the more practical bike... now the 600 is great for posing, almost as flickable on the technical roads and canyons...the suspension is a lot better and feels more planted, and very stable...the racing position make it no more than an hour at a time and then a rest break... so razor, what year cbr do you have?... |

I know, I used to ride the crap out of my 250 and get 40 mpg. On my 650 I would get 42mpgs because I wouldn't ride it as fast as I would on the 250, go figure lol

Good review, but CBR, while being razor sharp is still somewhat docile bike. If you are gentle and smooth, you can get away with many small mistakes on it.
Also I gotta confess: I felt like an ace on Ninja after a season of riding. Now, after a few months and 1500 miles on CBR I feel I can still barely ride her- she is a lot harder to ride well than Ninjette, because the bar is raised so much higher. Also, I get 30-ish mpg if I ride her like grandma, less if I stay in the powerband... |

How do you folks with CBRs like the seat height? I've sat on all the 600 supersports from the main jap brands except Honda. I found the gixxers and the zx6rs to be perfect for my 5'6'' frame, the r6 was way too high, but I haven't had a chance to sit on a CBR yet, what do you guys think?

Yeah, I just came back from a group ride and sat on a '10 CBR 600 and it's way too high for me. It's going to either be a gixxer or a kawi if I ever upgrade. tnx.

Sorry no, I did record the ride though and probably will upload it soon.
lol...It'll be a LOOONGGGG time before I hopefully have the dough to even THINK about a Duc lol, but tnx , i'll look into older R6s but it's probably going to be a newer gixxer or a zx-6r for me if and when I upgrade. |

Your mpgs seem right for me. I get 37 to 55 mpg on the 250, got mid 40s on my cbr600. And got between 25 city and 56 highway on my Ducati 800. Also got up to 56mpg on my Vstrom 1000 after some exhaust mods and fixing the FI tuning the previous owner screwed up that gave me 35mpg max when I bought it..
