Where are you going?
How do you decide?
I am on a lot of forums, this being the most active. I am on some local ones that either are not to active or have content that I don't think has a place when you have a diverse group... Anyway. The point is how do you decide where you are going? I have found some websites to help me pick either a location or a specific route... Some of them are nation wide so I thought I would share.. http://www.motorcycleroads.com/ (some of the rides I looked at were a little old 07 so I would double check to make sure everything is still open and clear) http://www.openroadjourney.com/ (This one is International. This is also the one where I discovered how to find the PA Shoe House. And yes I am a member but rarely post. People are very critical about the routes) So where do you look?

I decide where I'm going by who I'm going to visit, what restaurant I want to chow at, or where I haven't been yet.

I just ride around trying to get lost. I am a lot more comfortable doing so now. While I never actually got lost before, with the GPS I can go anywhere and just flip it on when I want to head home.
Other than that, if I'm going to see someone I just try to take the route that avoids the most highways (they are so boring). |

I love their tag line! "The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. But where is the fun in that?"
That does look like it is turning out to be an awesome site. They haven't quiet made it to my area but CA seems to be quiet popular! Great find!

paradise is about....trade-offs i suppose...
i mean...i'm NEVER, EVER gonna have the 'where ya go'in' question to answer. i simply don't have a choice. you get on the bike and ride 'away' from home...then turn around at some point or ride to the end of the road where you HAVE to turn around...and ride 'towards' home! ...the trade-off comes when i get to ride year round. i certainly understand why you love to ride when the season lets ya. dont know how you seasonal riders do it..(probably cuz...ya ain't got a choice..) sorta like living in paradise huh?...

I live in probably the best area of the state for riding. I can head out in any direction and ride for hours on the 2-lane back roads with 40-50mph limits. Beautiful scenery is everywhere and I've only lived in this area for 3 years, so there's still a lot to see. I usually just pick a compass direction and go.

Never really thought about it. I usually know when I get there. Back in my younger days, when leaving the house my dad would ask that. My comments on more than a few occasions was something along the lines that when I am finished, I will be here at home. nb

I am riding every day to work and back provided the temperature is over +2 degrees C other than that I chose between one of the two cars or the bike depending where I want to go and what I have to do. A set of golf clubs don’t go on the back of the bike as for riding around I don’t have the time for that.

I just whip out a map and look at the roads.
....OK that's a lie. I use google maps. But it's the same idea! Most longer rides I go on I go with a group from a local forum and they all know the good riding roads around here much better then me. So I just follow them. |

I usually decide where I'm off to from the advice of friends and other riders.
I have a friend who rides HD and it seems he's been damn near EVERYWHERE so I give him a call, "Hey Rusty, where to next?" And he hooks me up with an interesting trip idea. Plus, I've gotten a couple of ideas from people right here on Ninjette I haven't been to any other 250 forums in awhile... |
