Question new sound on my ninja 250r

Hi guy's. I have a question. I just replaced my chain on my 09 ninja 250r. it has 16k miles on it atm. i ordered the stock chain and put it on the bike and washed the bike completely (motor and all) with soap and water with a brush. The weird thing though is after i did all that to my bike. The motor has a strange sound when i drive it past 30mph. and its similar to the motor sound of a 4-wheeler. It gets louder when i go faster. It never made that noise at all b4. Is that normal for it?? sorry ima new driver and i dont know too much about them. had the bike for 3 months now and bought it at 10k miles. also it only makes the noise while driving. i can rev the motor up standing still and it not make the noise.

Welcome Kyle!

I bet your hearing some chain noise. Check chain tightness and wheel alignment. If either one is off you may hear noises.

Could it be from the sprockets?? I thought they need to be changed out with the chain?

You should have changed the sprockets when you changed the chain (or at least made sure they were alright),..., another possible issue could also be the valves. I hear either loose or tight valves (can't remember which) produces a distinct and pronounced change in the sound of the engine and considering you bought the bike @ 10K miles, are you sure the 7,500 miles valve servicing was done by the P.O.
Just some ideas, hope you get the issue resolved

What type of chain lube are you using? How did you confirm wheel alignment?

maybe your chain is too tight. maybe your wheels are going to fall off. maybe you just need earplugs.
