Anyone can crash once.
Now crashing twice within 5 minutes during the same track session; that takes a certain kind of stick-to-it-iveness.

He was allowed to just hop on his bike and go at it again? That wouldn't be allowed at the tracks I attend - he'd have to be re-teched and cleared to go out again.

Let me just say that I haven't done a track day yet... BUT after seeing everyone's vid of them tracking I want to go soooooo bad...
With that being said I can see myself taking a spill, or probably going two for two like this guy did.... but what I worry about is if my spill causes someone else to take a dump like the other rider did at the 5:45 mark.

That was the rider, wasn't it? I don't think that was another rider.

What a maroon. I didn't recognize the track. It must be a far-end track.

Noob question: anyone know why he crashed? I'd like to try a track day eventually, and trying to learn.
Both times it looked like his front wheel lost traction...tire broke loose and the handlebar turned. This is because...he was going too fast into the turn? |

Agree...should have re-tech'd. We had an incident at our local track where a guy went down, got back out without completely checking his bike. Turns out he loosened a hose or cracked the radiator and ended up dumping fluid all over the track. Caused another guy to wad up his bike pretty bad. Since then, things have gotten much more strict.

Too much lean angle; not enough grip on front end.

If you're gonna lean that much, you better get on throttle early. He does start rolling on throttle but too late into the corner.
My guess is he's doing what I did wrong and riding a little above his skill level. When you enter a corner that hot, human instinct is to slow down. Especially when you enter way above your level, you are not used to it and you panic. You chop gas the bike loses traction and you kiss the pavement. Just my 2 cents. And yeah he should gtfo of the way of the other bikes instead of sitting there like an idiot. |
