I bought a cheapo "gear pro" camera from amazon and stuffed a 32gb card into it. It records at 720p @30fps. I'll load a small video ASAP to give you an idea. On a full. Badge I believe it'll go for at least a couple of hrs. Cost 65$ so dont expect the world. It did come wih at least 5 different mounts though. I'm satisfied with it.

SONY ACTION CAMERA
They just recently came out. Has better video quality than the go pros and look alot better too. Records in 1080p. Comes with 2 mounts and a waterproof casing. I will be getting one soon. |

The Coleman looks good, 1080p, except sd card, has a couple of mounts and it can be had for $110-120... just like to see the video first and see if anyone else has had a look at it. Was at BJ's today that had a small one that did 30fps in 720 for $60... I almost nabbed it but I could find any reviews on it Same on the Coleman.. must be to new.. I'll have to check the Sony out... same question, got a link and does anyone have experience with it.

If you want to mount it to your bike you need to be careful about the shape and size. Any camera that is like a hand held (smartphone shaped) will not attach to the bike very well and will have vibration in the video. I had rather good luck with my contour but you really can't beat gopro

Here is a link for Op: http://store.sony.com/c/Action-Cam-F...ony_Action_Cam While I do not have one yet, it definitely seems like the thing to buy if you want something over budget cams and get best bang for your buck. Its $200 or $270 with wi-fi. If you google it, you will get a ton of reviews. |

So which is better; that new Sony Action cam or the GoPro Hero 2? I'm pretty sold on the hero 2 because of mounting options and lots of positive feedback on the market so far, but I'm willing to check out the new Sony. I won't be buying a new camera until winter time.

They are probably pretty similar in quality and that sony is small like the gopro so vibration won't be an issue. I'm sure they both produce similar quality video, I'd probably pick whichever captured better sound

Drift HD 170, best camera for mounting to your helmet. It fits nicely on the side.
Shoots 1080p at 30fps, 720p at 60fps. I have a 32gb memory card. The standard battery gets me 3-4 hours of 1080p footage. You can also buy a large battery that's 2x the size. Cost me about $175 for a slightly used one in like-new condition on ebay. |

Contour hd.
720p at 60 fps. It goes to 1080p at 30 fps but it gets a little choppy. It was a gift to me so no comments on price or location. I get roughly 2 hours constant recording. Uses microSD... Love it. I use it mostly for snowboarding so I like the fact that it's low profile compared to the gopro |

I am not sure about others but I know Sony's has some really sweet stuff like steadyshot technology, a high-tec low-light sensor, and 720p @ 120fps (4x slow-motion, great when crashing intentionally! )
But check out some comparison videos, tons to choose from. A lot will come down to personal opinion, although in my opinion Sony's kicks butt at night, crispness, and steadyshot vs without. |

Sony Action Cam.
1080p at over 100fps....yeah. GoPro is good, but I think they just got smoked. |

Does it do 1080 @ 60fps? 120fps will be way too much of a storage hog

The only think about the Sony action cam is that I dont think they come with internal memory. But Sony does have some of the best cameras in the market right now. They use Carl Zeiss lens. Best.

I don't know if the Action Cam has an external mic port, but the HD Hero2 does and I'm such an audio snob when it comes to capturing the sound of the bike that was enough to sway me towards the GoPro.

The sony needs to be put in a seperate case (a minus) to make it waterproof. It has interchangable lenses (a big plus) but not all lenses will fit in the accessory case (a minus). It's a little bigger than the coleman. I couldn't capture the specs on the sony (over a page but they are on the link. The Coleman is standalone water proof (big plus) and seems to have good specs but doesn't have the Ziess Lens (minus). And of course Coleman is a Big Name camera maker... I had an Aerostich coupon sitting around for awhile that I've been wondering what to use for, and this sealed it. Ordered an HD Hero2 this evening, and am looking forward to playing with it. It's on backorder there, so it might be a short while before they can ship me one; but I'm not in any rush.

Thought you didn't want to do videos? Have fun with it though!! I've really missed having an HD camera to play with since my Flip HD broke. I'm looking forward to having more mounting flexibility and water-proof capability with the GoPro. Less to worry about.

I'm currently using the low-def long-run Bluetooth DVR cam from Looxcie. I think the Sony Action Cam is almost perfect. I especially like seeing microSD on a Sony product, though it's not the first time I've seen that (my Sony-Ericsson Xperia PLAY phone only takes microSD). I would like to see Bluetooth 3.0, a DVR buffer function (records up to capacity and over oldest footage while saving moments you specified), and a way to power it while recording (at least it has a swap-able battery). On the smartphone application side, I would like to see simultaneous Bluetooth audio capture so that you can narrate through your noise-canceling motorcycle Bluetooth kit, live-streaming to Justin.tv and the like, instant YouTube uploads ala LooxCie, etc.

Currently using a Drift HD. It shoots in 1080p.
You're not going to get good battery life out of anything when using 1080p as it takes a lot of processing to record at that resolution. Its great for short videos, but if your looking to get a ton of footage get something that works great at 720p as well. You can get about 2hrs of footage out of a standard battery from the drift hd @ 720p. http://driftinnovation.com/camera/drift-hd/ Notable Features: Video resolution: 1080p, 720p & WVGA 25 / 30 / 50 / 60fps in 720p or 25 / 30fps in 1080p Lens Rotation: 300° Recording Angles: 170° at 25 / 30 / 50fps / 130° at 60fps Remote range: 5m range Inputs: Optional External Microphone AV Output: HDTV out (HDMI cable not included) microSD memory capacity: Supports memory cards up to 32 GB Photo resolution: 9 Megapixel LCD screen: 1.5″ colour TFT Sample Vid, there are more on my channel. |
