It replaces your ECU for the sake of adjusting the fuel to air ratio curve across the power band to allow the optimum mix for best performance.
It does this by being uploaded with a "map" which can be a stock fuel to air ratio curve or a custom one created by putting your bike on a dyno to determine a custom ratio based on your specific bike for best performance. So, in a nut shell, it tells your fuel injector system to deliver more fuel, as typically your bike will run a little lean and will only get leaner "meaning it'll need more fuel for tye best mix ratio" with the more performance parts you add, like exhausts and air filters and snorkel. Leo Vince also make an ECU for the Ninja 250 that does the same thing. |

It's for the Leo Vince exhaust, but since all performance exhausts do the same thing "better flow" and it's reprogramable I believe it will do the same as a the powercommander. |

Cool! I thought to myself what I would do if I ran LeoVince and needed an ECU to go with my performance components... develop one from scratch (long development time, high risk, expensive) or look for an existing system (low risk, cheap in the short term, practically no development time).

@bandit_fosky: just incase you don't know: only the fuel injected ninjettes can make use of the powercommander. The ninja 250 (2012 and earlier) found in the states isn't fuel injected and thus has no ECU, so a powercommander is useless.

You can get a different CDI box that will alter the ignition advance curve. I think there are some programable ones on the market. If you had a dyno available you could probably make use of an adjustable CDI unit.
