T-Bone
Well I was riding back from work and going across an intersection and about half way through it a car turned into me and i hit the cars front right side and i believe i front flipped over the car and landed on my back and skided on my jacket to a stop next to the curb. I was going at 40mph when the hit happened, I can say that God is watching out over me. i got to the ER with only a fractured scapula, lightly bruised lungs and minor scrapes. The bike is totaled was far as i know. im still in out pt care. but the tow yard said the bike's front end is done.
Sucky part is that i just bought the bike a month ago and its all paid off, haha. i also only have liablity so im praying that the other drivers insure pays up. also the light was yellow for both of us and i blacked out between impact and esking up on the street Bike was a nice 2005 ninja 250 Last futzed with by set608; March 30th, 2013 at 06:34 AM. That sucks but glad your OK, well kinda OK I guess
Fractured scapula's are kind of a bitch for awhile depending on how bad so best of luck the healing process. Where you running video or maybe a witness or two around? I'm kinda displeased with the lack of human decency of late. |

Sorry to read this, Seth
That was the typical left turn driver; you are really lucky, not many riders survive a 40 mph impact like that one. Hope everything works well for you. Welcome to the site !!!

Bummer man....
2 fiends of mine have had the same injury as you and it took them about 4-6 months to be 100% again. Take your time and best of luck healing up quick.

When my dad lowsided the Ninjette at the track, he broke like 7 bones, and his scapula literally shattered.
He was back on a bike within a month

Your liability should still include uninsured/under insured so you would have something if they don't.
But I second the suggestion, purchase more insurance because you never know what the other person will or will not have. Here is a good discussion on insurance with some things to think about http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...ight=insurance |

Glad you're not too banged up. This is basically exactly what happened to me one month ago. How did the driver react? And as for insurance, I too will be upgrading to full-coverage when I get my next bike.
I think the only way we can help prevent accidents like this is to slow down at intersections. Is it annoying to have to slow down all the time? Yes, but it's even more annoying to be sent to the ER and have your bike killed. Hope you heal fast an keep us updated on whether or not the other party has insurance. |

Hope you heal quickly.
Did you get a chance to get some witnesses? If you were going straight and he was going left, you're most likely not at fault.

I'm fairly certain the responding police officers will ask around for witness statements. At least they did with my case. They will be recorded in the police report.

Just stumbled upon this t-bone accident today. It can happen in an instant. This guy seems to have seen it coming but made no attempt to evade.

Good to hear your ok. Not sure they'll necessarily be held at fault since you were both going on a yellow, both wrong/right depending on how you look at it.

No dude, that sounds impossible. think about it, if the light was programmed like that many deaths would occur or accidents like what you had. you or the other driver is lying about their yellow light. lights are programmed to stop oncoming traffic before the other intersection goes green, seriously man, think about that really hard

Sorry for the late reply, been busy since the accident. So I read the police report and turns out I actually almost passed her and she wiped out the rear of my bike, shooting it out from underneath me. That's what caused me to fly forward. The Insurance states that it was 100% her fault no fault on my part. . So my settlement for my bike is $2800 I paid $2500 so not bad. I still have to talk to the medical adjuster and settle on that side also. I'm hoping to get anywhere from $8,000 to $5,000. on that. Still have to call them about that. I'm thankful just to walk away.
The light was yellow for both of us because it was a unprotected turn on a 4 lane Street. Myself, the other party and the witnesses saw that. I plan on getting the same bike, but also planning on getting bright green Icon jacket and helmet. Just to give me a little better odds. Here are picks of whats left of the bike. Charcoal box, left side exhaust, triple tree, all left side fairings , left side handle bar, front brake chamber cap blown, and the forks are done.- Thats what is broken just from my eyes view. |

@set608
Don't forget to ask them about keeping your bike after they pay you for it. When I crashed (not my fault either) I asked them and they said it would be $300 but they actually charged me nothing! if you can do that see if you can fix it up cheaply and get it passed from the state patrol easily. sometimes getting state patrol to pass it is easy like my state or very hard so check that. even if you can't do that you can either A) sell it after fixing it, or sell it without fixing it. Either way you may be able to get your bike back free or maybe really cheap. Also set608 make sure to ask about getting your safety equip (helmet, jacket, shoes, etc reimbursed by the insurance, not just you bike. when they reimbursed me they covered all of my stuff and it amounted to alot |
