Only took me two tries to pass my MSF
Haha well hey guys,
It makes me feel a tad bit like a loser that it took me two tries, but oh well. The first time I failed the test with 28 pts (20 to pass) because I anticipated the brake trap. The second time I took it, though, I got a perfect score. Progress, I guess. Now the search begins for a Ninja 250… everyone around here wants way too much money for them… it's dumb. It's great to be here. Thanks. |

No worries on taking it twice, lots of people don't pass the first time! And you made a huge improvement since you got a perfect score the second time, that's a good thing! That's what MSF is for! Good luck trying to find a bike, summer prices are getting crazier and crazier by the day it seems.

4 people in my MSF course failed so nothing to worry about (3 of them dropped even!). More experience on someone elses bike is good experience
Yeah, getting rough looking for used bikes around this time of year.. At this point though, don't rush into anything as (at least in my area) motorcycle prices pretty much peak from May-July

Yeah I'm looking to get a bike for between 2000 and 3000. The closer to 2000 the better I need to get experienced on a bike that I can drop and not lose thousands.

Is Salt Lake City too far for you? I think you'd have the best bet looking around that area. I'm seeing an 2002 250r for $1,800 around there (also a 2010 for 3,100).

Congrats on the pass... I got a -9 my first time, a few more mistakes and I would have repeated to, not everyone is a first time go. Best of luck on your search!

Welcome Nadir from a fellow Sandy rider. I just (last week) sold my 250, but it was an '11 and it went for over $3K. There's an '09 on KSL right now for $3K:
http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218...ninja&ad_cid=3 and an '06 for $2K. I'm not sure what you're basing your newgen pricing on, but in SLC they rarely come up for much less than $3K - I did see a '10 a couple of weeks ago for $2800 when I was trying to price my own, but I believe it may have been dropped. I also saw one for around $2k, but it was on a salvage title. Good luck with the hunt |

I dunno what I'm really basing on but it's a used bike that was $4000 new it can't be worth only 25% less than new... |

Worth a shot. I think for a newgen around $3,000 is fair with full service records. That one seems like a well taken care of bike (AND IT'S RED!) so he might not budge on the price.

Congrats on passing! I just passed mine a week ago. A third of our class did not. A girl I work with also rides, and half of her class failed to pass the first time, so no worries. Looks like you kicked its ass the second time around.

Also, the new bikes usually wind up with about $700-$1000 extra tacked on to the "price" to get the out-the-door cost.

I've found that the newgens (regardless of year) are all roughly $3k. I got mine two years ago for $3200 and I could just as easily sell it for the same. Although I did the ecotrons kit and aftermarket exhaust so I would up it a bit from that. Definitely doesn't hurt to save some dollars!

There was a dealer up here with new 2012 250's going for $3400.
Don't worry about taking two times to pass it. I let mine lapse and had to retake it after riding for about 8 years. Still took two tries on my R1. |

As for the prices I can't really say what would be fair. I mean I have a 2010 SE and I wouldn't let it go for less than 3K because it wouldn't be worth it to me. I love the bike and even if I was going to get another one if someone were to offer me somewhere closer to 2K I would just keep it as a second bike even if I didn't plan on riding it. It also doesn't necessarily matter what you think its worth, its what the market will pay. I had a guy willing to pay me 4500 for mine last year before I moved to Maryland (I was in CA at the time) because he loved it so much (I only payed 4200 for it OTD, but lots of fun mods). I would have sold it to him but I decided to keep it because I know this bike inside and out (I've stripped her Nekkid multiple times and even converted her to EFI once, removed the airbox once, and installed a new exhaust once) and I got a Joe Hauler (I never knew they existed, I didn't want to part with the bike and when I got that there was no reason to.) Anyways, now that riding season has begun you will need to find a desperate seller to get a price that good, but it is possible if you are patient enough. Like I said though, if you find a good deal down here near the Provo area and are worried about getting it up there hit me up and I can probably help you. I can also go to look at a bike with you if need it to make sure that they aren't lying about dropping it (it is usually easy to tell) and whether or not they have been taking care of it (like when the chain has never been maintained ) |
