Ha I wouldn't say stern, but I'd hate to see a rider I'm with go down without protection since I've seen more than my fair share of crash pics without gear and it's not pretty. Not to mention the down time from the injury will annoy you. In the end if someone skimps on gear it's not my problem but I try and point people in the right direction, whether they listen is up to them. Chris is still a cool guy in my book.

Just thought I bring this thread back up to see what riders were still up for this and to see if there are any more riders that would like to join. The ride is less then a month away.

What route is it? /we can try and organize something but there aren't many active people posting in here so I'm not sure how big it'll be, although I'm not a fan of big group rides.

I'll see if I can get off work, but I can probably do this! I have family in Columbus so I would probably come the Friday before and do a visit with them then meet up with you guys.

Also the link to the route is not working for me on google maps.

71S to Columbus will be torture though

That's going to be one long-ass day for me; 8+ hours. Better be lots of breaks and gas stops, that's all I'm saying.

I'm in still. Brett has my number, I'm not going to post that on a forum

For us NE guys that's easily an 8-10 hour day, and I refuse to do 71 down or up, it's a tremendously boring 2 1/2 hour ride and taking back roads to columbus takes about 4 hours as well. I just did a route to columbus last weekend and by the end of the day I was exhausted because there's nothing really that great between here and there. I love long rides as much as the next guy but if it's boring then you get bored and tired quick.

Maybe try for something on the OH/PA border roads since that's a middle ground for us? Then maybe csmith could make it up too.

If the three (maybe more?) of us NE guys rode down together it might be a little less awful. I think Chris is in Hudson now? And I'm in stow, so no reason not to I suppose. I'm down for anything.

Yep, I'm back in Hudson. Bike will get started soon, then I have to do a valve job and replace some bearings. After that, I'll be riding for the season.

My father and I are kinda busy searching for a car for me.

True but if you think about it, it took my around 4 hours to get down to Columbus, the route will be 4-5 hours, then another 4 hours to ride back. Honestly it'd be easier to make it a two day event so us NE guys get a break but can also enjoy other roads down there.

Well I would be glad to help out in any way to make this a better ride for all, i got about room for a few guys if they need a place to stay so they can come a day earlier if that makes it easier, might be a good idea to set up another ride for later in the summer that is up north since yall would know the way around.

Just let me know

^^ werd. There's a few short nice roads, but the scenery gets old after a while. No nice stretches of road like down south.

I won't be riding there. I might have an Indian's game that I have to work the concession stand, not sure exactly. If not, I'll be there to hang out at least.

I just got my bearings all installed and my bike up and running. I'm pretty much out and riding for the season, but I'm super rusty. I need to do a valve job sometime soon as well...

Ah alright. Well hit me up if you wanna do a local cruise through the valley and meadows sometime, then after the track day I'll probably be ready to do the southern rides.

I texted you back. Valley run sounds good to me. You can decide where we're going. I'm just gonna cruise, like always.

No crashing allowed!

A run to and from meadows is about the only thing worthwhile unless you have more roads that I'm not thinking of. Too bad that lake we rode around isn't closer, that stretch of road was nice being 55 and freshly paved. But I don't really want to ride an hour just to get to that lake unless I'm super bored ha. What's your schedule Saturday?

I think I'm free all saturday morning/afternoon. I'd be game for a ride to that lake and back if that's what you want. Maybe not the whole way south of Canton, but the lake sounds good.

Or we could head up the emerald necklace to the lake. That's a nice scenic cruise and is connected to meadows. Up to you.

We need to watch the weather though.

I took the necklace almost all the way to the lake and found it to be pretty straight and highly populated but maybe. I don't know a short route to that lake either but it is past Canton, Atwater lake I believe. Weather is saying only 20% rain as of now, too.

It gets a little curvy for the last section starting in Rocky River. if you can figure out a 2.5-3 hour route for Atwater Lake, I'm in. I don't want to be out all day, but I want to go for a pretty good ride.

Let me see what I can put together that looks good. Unfortunately to get there within an hour requires taking 77s down but getting back we can go NE towards Ravenna/Youngstown and head west when we go far enough north. Or we can do emerald necklace and find a place to grab a bite on the lake if anything is up that way.

Still on the fence about riding down to Columbus. Andthis past weekend while changing the coolant the battery suddenly died, so thanks for the bad luck @choneofakind! A quick charge brought it back so we'll see if it holds.

I think it must be contagious. I think it's not my battery though. I've been attacking things with a multimeter, but I haven't ridden since sunday evening, so no real progress on that for me
