Sounds like a whole bunch of awesome locations to stop by.

Anybody have a good site w/ a map that I can use to plot these out and then i'll add any of your locations to the map as we go.

At the moment it's looking like this...
Cant for the life of me figure out that gmaps link thingy soooo here's the link.
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...be078bd9&msa=0

If there's a better maps type thing, lemme know so I can better route this whole thing out. I hate GMAPs because once i save it, I cant modify and add new points to it.

There hassssssss to be something better. This is just annoying.

@Jiggles, keep track of some lunch locations in a list form for me. We'll see how many we can add in. I would love to meet up with all of you on our way. Even if it's an extra hour detour i'd probably still do it.

Yeah I guess Oroville is kinda outta the way. You can cut through the mountains to get to 80 that way too. Deff the scenic route though. Lol

I see ya'll are riding through Wisco. I might ride out and join you for a little while just for the fun of it. Through WI you hit the Dells and Madison, there should be plenty of nice places to grab lunch/dinner.

It occurred to me that the northerly route could include Yellowstone and Grand Teton. Or, depending on just how northerly, it could include Glacier/Banff.

This ride is pure win. I don't now if I could stand my growler for more than a couple hours though.

I just moved out to Boston from MN last fall. Bummer too, I would have been right on your ride through the Twin Cities. I think Boston is a bit of a detour from your route, but if you decide to explore more of the east coast, let me know!

Lets see how timing goes. If we make good time early on we might have time to swing by boston. It's only like a day's ride from NYC and I have a buddy in boston I havent met up with in a while.

Plus, we'll see how our butts feel after that many miles.

I would change that route, how can you drive cross country and miss the great riding in TN and NC, mainly Deals Gap and the Blue ridge parkway????

80 is pretty boring. What about taking 50 and cutting up back to 80?

Unless you are used to it or are out to see some great desert, both 80 and 50 are equally boring. But 80 is faster and more opportunities for rest stops/towns. There is only one thing worse than the east/west roads through most of Nevada, and it's the north/south roads between 50 and 80!

Now! Seeing as you guys are (currently) planning a hop through my lovely neighborhood, if you find your time table putting you between Fernley and Winnemucca sometime after 4, I'll ride with you along 80 (or 50 is you opt to change).

Dinners are home cooked by a clown, a king, or a ping pong ball. Booze only comes in a slightly modified beer form, made from a root.

Head north from 50 somewhere between Folsom and Placerville.
One example (helo warning sign on this road so take it easy):

Short link:

I've only ridden until it just past a bridge and then I chickened out way back when.

Mea Culpa for the assumption that you meant 80 through Nevada and not the California part.

Though, looking at their directions, AAA is telling them to go to Sacramento then from "I-80 E becomes I-80-BR E. Drive for 5.1 miles." to "I-80-BR E becomes US-50 E. Drive for 108.6 miles."

Looks like they'll be taking 50 from Sac to Tahoe before dropping down on this side of the Sierras and heading to Carson before continuing north to Reno (that is what caused my initial assumption, since Carson is listed. 80 to Carson then back to 80 is poor routing unless you mean to stop).

On that note, yes take 50 in California MUCH MUCH better road than 80.

You know what? I failed to notice the switch to 50 in the directions.

If you guys are running late and haven't made it to NV by then, I could probably meet for lunch around Sacto. But I don't ride to work.

Seeing if GMAP code on the original plan works:

Cool! Thanks for the suggestions. I only used AAA because it saved my routes. Gmaps even though they let me save the pins, it wouldnt let me do a "get directions" without reentering all my destinations and adjustments. Pain in the butt.

In anycase, I'm open to swapping out roads just for fun. If you havent noticed, some locations like lake tahoe, yellowstone, and mt rushmore has loops added to the days. AAA wouldnt let me map those without lagging like crazy so I had to make an estimate.

Ok, rereading the directions from Tahoe to Reno. BAH! AAA doesn't know what it's talking about when it comes to fun routes. Here's my recommendation...

Go clockwise around Tahoe and come down Spooner/Hwy 50 to Carson. From Carson, take Highway 50 out to Moundhouse and turn north up SR 341 to Virginia City. Before you get to Silver City you'll see a sign for the Truck Route/Occidental Grade - TAKE THAT! It is the best motorcycle road around here and very little traffic (espeically in the middle of the week). After you go through VC, you'll come down Geiger Grade which is another great road though usually more traffic since everyone is going between VC and Reno. At the bottom of Gieger, you are right back at 395 and can turn north to go into Reno.

Just watch for horses.

Short URL since the map isn't working for me... AH HA got it!

According to the schedule, we are supposed to get to Albany by the 10th. If it holds up then yes, we will take a detour out to boston and the car will go to the city. I havent added it to the schedule because I havent told my parents... whom will be driving the car.

Another consideration is we'll go to NYC first, and then swing out to boston over the weekend.

Minor issue, the starter cable on my bike needs to be replaced because it doesn't provide enough current and sometimes can't power the starter. The dealer didn't have any in stock and the closest place that did was still kinda far and I have to work. So I may be bump starting this nearly 600lb multiple times this trip, yayness
