Bike bogging when giving it throttle
My bike runs like crap when giving it throttle. When you try to give it throttle, the engine seems to bog down and struggle. From this point, if you give it more gas, it stalls. Holding it at that same amount of throttle will sometimes eventually stall it. You can't really get up in the rpms at all. With the choke fully on, it climbs up through the rpms. It doesn't rev, but it slowly climbs up.
I've changed the plugs, ran it without the air filter, and tried Seafoam, all with the same problem. I upped the idle which seemed to help, but it's still not fixed (when I raised the idle and cranked the throttle, the rpms seemed to hang a bit, but maybe I used too much Seafoam? Doesn't seafoam lean it out?). I drained all of the fuel and pulled the carbs, and they actually looked really clean. I put it back together and put a little bit of fuel in it and had the same issue. I turned it off and when I opened the gas cap, the bike make a hissing noise like it was either releasing pressure or sucking in air. I closed it back and retried it and the bike seemed much better. Not 100%, but way better than before. I tried it again the next day, and got the same thing. Ran like crap with throttle, opened cap, hissed, then ran much better.. Could this be a fuel tank venting or gas cap issue? |

Sounds like you have some sort of fuel (not getting enough) or vac issue.
I need to get up there to help you out. Been racing the past 2 weekends and will be racing again in two weeks. Lemme check my schedule with your pm and let you know.

In the meantime, keeping the cap closed, pull the gas hose out of the carbs' connector and measure how much fuel if flowing down. At any time you should have at least 2 cc per second. If you do, then you will need to verify that the float valves are open, by draining the bowls. If the problem persists, then, you need to verify the operation of the diaphragms and needles.

Alright! Sounds like a plan! Here's some vids I made earlier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhHB...e_gdata_player
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx6t...e_gdata_player Those were earlier.. I let it run for a while and eventually I heard a long beeping sound coming from the tank... Seemed better after that. |

Do you use the choke and let the bike warm up before cranking on the throttle?
Has the bike been sitting out in the rain a while? Also your gas cap looks like crap. Cleaning that up may help with your venting, there's a couple of little holes around the lock that vent the air. |

You said you pulled the carbs, did you clean them out and drain the bowls? Seafoam may not have done the job. I had this exact problem.

Pull the carbs and have them out for when I get there. We will clean them (jets and all) and put em back in. I will bring the guitar string if you have the carb cleaner ready.

Yep she runs just fine. Needs a new air filter and to bleed the rear brake but after that it's ready to go.

For completeness and to bring closer to the problem in the OP;
Visual check of all vac lines We cleaned the carbs Drilled caps off mix screws, one was 1 turn out, the other was 2 1/4 turns out. WTF! Never seen that from the factory. Set both to 2 1/4 turns I pulled some goo out of one of the gas cap vent holes, ensured they both were clear While I was in the areas, I also checked; Rear and front brake pads and calipers Controls and cables Shift lever and linkage Tires Engine mount bolts Stem bolt Clip on's - one was loose Various other little things that are to much to list General wiring looked to be in good working order I also adjusted his rear shock to position 3. Overall the bike was clean, just a victim of to much dormant time in a garage from the previous owner. With a little bit more TLC, it will make a fine riding bike.
