A little mental image to encourage riders to wear gear
Here's my rationale for wearing gear.
Picture a belt sander. For those of you not familiar with power tools, it's one of these: Install an 80-grit sanding belt on it -- 80 grit is more or less equivalent to pavement in roughness -- and fire it up. The surface of the belt will be moving at about 35 or 40 mph, which is more or less the speed you're likely to be moving if you go down. Now... and picture this as clearly, accurately and graphically as you can... apply the running sander to the body part of your choice. You're allowed to be wearing whatever you want when you do so. Clear enough? |

You are more likely to die from road rash (it gets infected) than from broken bones.

I attribute a good portion of the early success of this site due to those email notifications. Many boards don't take the time to customize the default settings for new users, and the default settings don't subscribe people to threads they've posted in, and don't email those people about their subscribed threads.
With those settings as the default here, once people start posting at all they are immediately given feedback to return as people respond to their posts, and it builds on itself. For very frequent posters, it can get a little intrusive and that's why the settings are configurable and anyone can choose whichever preference they like. And if they're frequent posters, they may not need that little kick to come back anyway. But the vast majority of ninjette.org users keep things at the default setting, which allows for the most encouragement to

If you turned the belt sander over and placed a Ninja 250 with wings on it, would it fly?

Go to your "favorite" parking lot. Pick a direction. Run as fast as you can. Jump. You're not allowed to land on your feet. You are allowed to wear whatever you want. Easy enough to do, after all, anyone that has access to a motorcycle has access to a parking lot. I don't care if the parking lot's paved or whatever, as long as it's a real parking lot. I'm sure the fittest members can sprint at over 15mph. Whatcha think?
