Repaint to white with blue accents
Has anyone had a lot of success with painting their bike white with any accents? I am going to strip and sand mine down, and paint it all white with the pegs, handles, levers, windscreen, and a few other pieces in blue, then paint the mufflers black (to cover a few scrapes) to look like newer model stock mufflers. Any thoughts?

wow... i guess ignore him.
i have painted my ninja a few times, white will work fine just make sure you let each coat dry so you can see how white it is. you will need at least 2-3 coats, my ninja is gunmetal with kawi green accents. i have some pics in my profile and if you want i can take some new ones with my equipment painted kawi green. if you start to paint things blue as an accent color i would recommend some blue vinyls, they really set things off. if you want to do what i did start with the vinyls then paint things piece by piece so you can make sure they look right.

What are you using to paint the parts? If you're planning to use spray paint then just stop where you are, the quality in the paint along is not worth the time/effort it will take.
Any heavily used parts should be powdercoated if you want then to last longer than a single ride. Painting the pegs is a non-starter. If you have to powder coat one blue part then you might as well do all other parts (that can be PC'd) to keep the color uniform. I'm with Joshorilla IF you use any lighter shade of blue, if you stick with a nice deep blue and keep it subtle (no need to coat every metal knick-knack on the bike) then you should end up with a clean look.

dont worry about what anyone else thinks of your bike, its yours not theres! Hes right about painting levers, rearset etc. I think zero gravity makes a blue tinted double bubble windscreen, and I seen someone on here found some cheap blue rearsets on ebay. If done right It should look good. Post up pics when you start.

Well, I've repainted the mufflers with black heat resistant paint, and taped off the heat shield and the very end trim by the muffler end. It looks SO much better than it did before, especially with an updated look like the newer ninjas. Anyone else tried this? It's made a world of difference when covering up those rust spots.

Here are a few pictures of the mods I've made so far. Included are:
new bar ends removal of stock decals addition of LED light strips on a rocker switch installation of the stock chain guard, not installed when the bike was purchased painted caliper painted mufflers, to mimic the look of the newer 250 mufflers to name a few... it's rained for the last few days, so it needs to get cleaned up. but the mufflers turned out really neat and clean. The mirrors were added there because they did not fit in the sockets for the stock mirrors, and they have LED blinkers integrated as well. Yes, the fairings are mounted and drilled right to the body. The angle was a little difficult at first to get right, and the mirrors feel like I'm always adjusting. Also, with the knock off mirrors, you have to tighten the bolt every few trips, depending on how rough the road is and how fast you go. They do droop down from their position (not from being mounted, just the forward/back position on the angling bolt). But once they are tightened a few times they stick well. Just make sure you have them at an angle where the led flashers blink out, not down.

The LED strips were from Newegg.com. I think they cost around $15 for a set of four strips, and they wire in to the accessory port with a rocker switch from O'Reilly Auto Parts. Pretty easy setup, just don't leave the switch on accidentally, as they do not shut off with the key. They are adhesive, altough I have them zip-stripped to the frame beneath the fairings, and the front ones are superglued to the fairing underneath the front end.

Well, I've rode with them on for over an hour before, and never had a problem. The wires do need to be a bit more secure, though, because sometimes, especially on bumpy roads, the lights do blink a little bit, but come right back. Otherwise, it's good. Just make sure that you don't put these on a naked bike, because moisture can DEFINITELY affect the strips.

Underglow is illegal period regardless of color, depending on your state it might differ. But most cops that I've talked to said they wouldn't even bother with it. If it's not blinking or on the tail directly, most won't even think twice. They might even admire it.

i have 255 LED's on my bike, and as long as you have the bike running while they are on there is no problem. ive also left em on for about 30 min with the bike off before w/o problems.
