Exclamation My first lane splitting experience... Backwards???

Haha, um ok. So I was riding up to a stoplight, apparently not fats enough for in a silver ford truck, so he puts his tires over in the grass and lane shares himself tryin to get by... Only he had to slam on brakes and screech up to the car that apparently my little self was bigger than folks crazy, that's illeagle, but I so almost got to laugh my booty off at some idiot!!! So lane splitting is legal for cars but not bikes? Where the police when ya bed em? Hahahaha, just hahahaha

maybe he didn't see you until the last minute? could be that he saved your life, not that he was trying to get around you...

if he was screeching to avoid hitting the car in front of you, you'd have been smooshed for sure.

It's not legal, an I know folks that have been ticketed for it... When I come to a stop its usually off to the side of cars so I can hopefully jump between em if anything scary happens. I have just sat in traffic an waited my turn so far... It's lame, even cars try to lane split an drive down the side of the road, guess its an equality thing... America is a bit tossed up in some aspects!!!

This is for Texas:

The lack of clear policy on filtering and lane-splitting could use AMA attention in Texas. Photograph courtesy of RidetoWork.org.

A special note about lane splitting
In spite of several “lane splitting” bills having been introduced in different sessions of the Texas Legislature, to date none has been signed into law. The concept of “lane sharing” is not specifically addressed by existing Texas statute, so lane-splitting is neither specifically permitted, nor prohibited. A lane-splitting rider stopped by a peace officer will be subject to the interpretation of the peace officer at the time.

However, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has decided to broadly interpret an existing statute so that lane-splitting falls under it, and is illegal. But is the language is so vague in their assertion, it buggers the question whether it’s legal to apply a statute so broadly.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reports the following regarding lane-splitting
The law doesn’t specifically say one way or the other, but there are several statutes that may come to bear depending upon the circumstances, i.e. right of way, obligation to drive in a single lane, signal intention, passing with safety, etc. Motorcycles are considered equally as cars regarding traffic laws, so the single lane, signal intention and other statutes in the Transportation Code could come in to play.

The main statute that makes “lane splitting” illegal is Transportation Code Section 545.060, entitled “Driving on Roadway Laned for Traffic.”

An operator on a roadway divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic:
shall drive as nearly practical entirely within a single lane; and
may not move from the lane unless that movement can be made safely.

oes noes! not another lane splitting debate!

@JohnnyBravo glad to see your ok! any time some one does something stupid like that to me i love to "Monkey Bounce" my ass around and then dip out, kinda like rubbing it in their face. trying to find a vid pic or gif of someone doing what i call monkey bouncing. the best way i can describe it is like doing a bunch of bunny hops without leaving the ground. like a monkey jumping up and down.

Hahaha

This isn't a debate, just a report of my ride today.

Hopefully Texas has a shot... Filtering at the least is a good thing, an lane splitting cuts down on traffic, an who doesn't hate traffic. Folks don't drive so well most places, I can only imagine what kinda hijinx would happen their first time getin lane split. Ya have the crazies to that road rage when someone gets ahead of them

I sure do love Texas, ready for another vacation there if I can't move back

Being born and raised in North Carolina I'm kinda surprised it seems I can't write or speak English... Haha when I lived in PA for 6 months it drove me nuts that when I talked folks said what or huh more than they talked to me. I still dunno why they say two different pin an pen differently, sounds more like pan when they want a writing pen.

I lane split religiously. I know it is illegal but whatever. I make sure to only do it at a red light when I'm approaching it as a yellow. I have time to move forward. Then I generally will lane split if there are at least 3 cars ahead of me. Last but definitely not least. I do it if there isn't any cops around.

Yup filtering to the front of que at a light is also illegal here is kinda crazy sitting at the back of a line where all the rear end collisions happen. I tried it once an got cussed out by at least three people yelling about how I felt I was special, to good to wait my turn, and you think you own the bleepin road
Living in the murder capital of Florida is great... Ummmm not!!
