PSA- Deer Sex is in Season!

Deer are most active at dawn and dusk. Raging sex hormones this time of the year cause them to wander during those times. More often than not it is into the wrong place at the wrong time. Watch the trees and adjust your speed accordingly- there is a good chance they will dart in your direction of travel, even near a highway off ramp!

I am always amazed by how vivid a story the highway patrol reports can paint. It's really a lose - lose situation for everyone involved, including the deer.

Oh yes, very much so. And in and around my parts, they are very brave. I took this pic looking out my front door.

As I've stated in other threads, I dislike deer. Those things are just rats on stilts. They eat everything in our garden; tomatoes, basil, cilantro, rosemary, chives, green peppers, zucchini, even the jalapenos and cayennes. Finally they stopped when we got an electric fence

I'm not really into deer sex, but thought should also mention the dangers of fall/winter fallen leaves on the ground..... especially wet leaves. You don't want to lean your bike over, or brake hard, on wet leaves.

Can't see the deer around here for all the moose. Ever try to low side under one of them?

Dunno if it's effective, but I put a deer whistle on the top of my front fender. Haven't seen any since to know if they take notice. I go to work before dawn and hit a deer just this spring with my car. The thought of hitting a deer on my bike scares the beejeezes out of me.

One of the guys at work swears they work. He says he put one on his truck backwards and says the deer follow him home.

On a side note, we live in the country. Years ago, we lived in Charleston SC and all my high school friends were "city kids". My grandmother hit someone's pig that got on the road and really screwed her car. One of my friends came over to the house one day and asked about the damage. I explained that Granny had hit a pig. The guy looked puzzled and said "Weren't the blue lights on?"

Link to original page on YouTube.

Part of the problem is the placement of deer crossings. They put them on the interstate. Why cant they put the crossings in places where cars are going slower?

I think if she really was that stupid she'd only be able to make gargling noises down the phone line.

Also: near the start of the call, the caller laughs a tiny bit when the host seems baffled.

I am paranoid lately. We've seen more deer this year than I can remember. I usually have one run out in front of me about every other day lately. Today I had that feeling, and so I caged it instead of riding. This morning one ran out in front of me, but what you can't see is the other doe on the left side of the road who lost her nerve and didn't run across. Never mind the date on the camera overlay, I never set the date. It was this morning at 530am.

Last thursday, there were 3 on the street in front of my house.

I was scooting around about a week ago. I noticed movement and sound at my left side. As I turned to look!!! A deer jumped out of the woods and leapted over my head. I just ducked and all I could see was hooves. And it was not at a deer crossing. So it was J walking.

I was just cycling home in the dark along some country lanes and had the bicycle equivalent of a deer running out in front of me... it was a... NIGHT BUNNY! It scared the living daylight out of me! I think it scared itself too.
