Rev meter Problem
Hiya guys,
Got a annoying problem with my rev counter, Every time i rev past 9,000 the rev neddle stops for a split second and then carrys on rising up to 12,000 like normal, Its really annoying as you can see it out the corner of your eye whislt riding. It has nothing to do with the engine speed as this sounds fine

i had this happen to me on a different motorcycle, and older honda 'ceptor, and it the motor eventually began to cut out with the rpm drops. come to find out it was a spark unit going bad. not saying it's that here, but wanted to share the similarity.

After 3 CDIs and 2 Tachs, this same problem is where I'm at with my bike. Check out the thread on the CDI issue to see about details and check if you have any of the other problems associated with the bad CDIs.

Perhaps not, might be something else going on. Yours is the first FI bike I've heard of having the CDI problem. ????? This bears looking into!

Dont think the fi bike would have the cdi. Everytime I have seen those type of ignition coils, there controled by the ecm.

Our CDI controls our coils, true, and the ECM in the FI bikes is just an expanded version of our CDI with a few more computer chips.
I'll take a look at the wiring diagram for the FI bikes later and see what kind of commonality there is. Whatever the FI bikes call it, it'll control the fuel injection as well as the timing curves for the ignition.

Apparently it is a problem with FI bikes....
I went to my local dealers today as my bikes still under warranty and explained to the technician the problem etc. He said he has had the same problem on two other bikes that have been used all through the winter months like mine. Apparently the inside of ECU becomes condensated and upsets the electric gizmos etc. I am having the new one fitted on wednesday so i will see if that cures the problem. The guy seemed pretty sure it would though. Thank god for the 2 year warranty

Our cycle is CDI, tach, repeat until customer gets frustrated and doesn't want to try again, warranty expires, or customer stops coming back to spend money. Apparently someone on another board was told by their Kawi dealer that it's as simple a fix as a reflash of the CDI chip, and that they know it's a good fix. I'm thinking someone doesn't know what they're talking about. If it was that easy, everyone all over the web would be reporting that, NOT the cycle of replacement parts.

These needs to be seriously better ventilated if it holds true.. woah !!!
I've put 3000 KM on my bike and I think I got that problem (carburator version) with the CDI. I was driving at 120 KM and RPM was indicating 9000 RPM +, where it should have been lower (around 8300-8400) like usual because I got a larger sprocket up front. Only happened once on a particulary hot day... I'm out of warrenty, if I get more problem I'll adress the ventilation with some mods.

After reviewing the wiring diagram for the FI bikes, the tach gets it's signal directly from the ECU. It is NOT in parallel with the signal to the coil like it is with the carb bikes.
