trade with cash is probably the only way it'll happen. what makes you want to give up on the 250? afaik you haven't been around here for long, how many miles have you put on your bike and what kind of riding do you do? highway commute/canyon carving/cruising along for the sake of it/trying to get the top speed in a straight line/etc

I like how he defines a monster 696 as a small bike, those things have more power than that 650

what makes you think it's time to upgrade though? not that you shouldn't but I'm just interested. And yea, I know the feeling of having the smallest bike. Once you get to the twisties it's all about how you ride it.

first thing I noticed on that 650 when I looked at it again was the left mirror, pretty sure it's cracked.
650s in general aren't bad bikes though. |

Perhaps its time to find another group that accomodates people of all skills sets and sized bikes?
I ride in a group that is usually 12 plus riders. I, too, have the smallest bike in the group. However, the sweeper always cruises with me and lets me know that there is no rush in catching up since there are always designated spots where they wait to allow everyone to catch up. |

true, everything's an easy fix though. There doesn't look like there is anything severely wrong with it.
wanting more power is fair that's the biggest reason to trade up bikes. Just remember that you'll likely be giving up the light handling characteristics of your 250. Though I have found that a cbr600rr or a ninja 636 would weigh less than my 300 stock. Just one reason why I feel that 600s are the ultimate sports bike rather than 1000s. |

You're probably not going to like what I have to say, but I say it out of concern.
Not to go all parental, Josh, but how many miles have you ridden your 250? Please answer that question first. Maybe I sound a little preachy, and I'm sorry if I do, but I know a 22-year old who had his 250 for 6 months, an R6 for 9 months, then picked up a GSXR1000. Less than two weeks ago, within two days of getting the GSXR1000, he died in a single vehicle accident, on a mostly clear road. Please think clearly, honestly, and carefully about what you are doing. |

I personally feel its time to try out a bigger bike. I do still need to work on my cornering as at times I take them wide and don't counter steer enough. which I think can be practiced on any bike. not just a 250. I also believe maturity comes with mind when getting a bigger bike. If your not mature enough to handle a bigger bike then you don need one. I don't ride stupid, I don't do things I know I cant do. I push my self a little harder each time to learn new things but I know my limits. as far as something bigger then a 600 I know im not ready for that. |

Yeah. It was one of those cases where as soon as he mentioned buying the 1000, everyone told him, either publicly or privately, to chill out and stick with his current bike, even though he said he "understood it was a big responsibility/a lot of power." It's just sad for so many reasons, because he was a nice young guy, and it was a completely avoidable situation, which he created.

Excuse me sir, but would you like a little lemon on your calamari? Nothing like some citrus with your squid. But really. For real? Do you even have decent gear yet? You admittedly don't even know THE BASICS OF RIDING A BICYCLE an you're looking for a motorcycle with more power?!?!?!?! Such logic. |

Lol, I read that too. If you're having trouble running wide and basic counter steering, you're not ready.

i would not trust that gear very much. especially literally anything from xelement. why dont you spend your money on nicer gear instead of a bigger bike.
