I spent the night installing the fuel injection. It is super easy on this bike as it is all custom and no ari box or anything. I had to relocate a couple things but it will be going soon.
I extended the swing arm 2.5 inch also to make room for a couple components. I originally planned to do the swing arm when I had time. Since it is for the turbo bike. It gives me a chance to make the hugger and chainguard. The wiring is the big part. There is a lot of wiring on this bike now

Two things I don't use much of on race bikes is electrical tape and zip ties. I keep having to open everything up for modifications. I solder and shrink tube when I have to. And use crimp connections when I can. Everything gets bundled with a black plastic coil wrap.
The Ecotron system is all taped and sealed. This is critical for a Bonneville bike.

I am making great progress converting from CR Special carbs to Ecotron fuel injection. Matt has been really great about answering all my questions. The only thing I have to do different is make all my fuel lines fire proof. Steel braided lines and AN fittings. This is going to be a slow process. The fittings are not cheap and I need lots of different ones. So I order one or two a week and fit things together.
One thing I am thinking about is the smaller throttle body. 28 mm throttle body and 31 mm carbs. I got very little power increase going to the CR carbs. And the throttle body uses very short intake runners. The distance between the valve and the throttle plate is much shorter. I think this will improve power. The smaller hole and shorter pipe should keep the speed of the air at a higher velocity. That will put more air into the engne. Than a long pipe and a bigger opening. If it does not work out that way. Can I use a throttle body from a 300 ninja? They cost a fortune. Does anyone know if they will they work with the Ecotron kit?

Using TB's from EU-spec 250's (also 28mm I think) has been done in the past with other ecotrons converts.
I'd assume you could use the TB's from the 300, however, I think you'd have to do something about secondary butterflies. Like remove them. If it's like the EU 250R TB's, it's a dead-end fuel rail instead of the version ecotrons uses with the return line, which makes the plumbing easier. My only worry about using TB's from the 300 is the injector size. What is the ID of those TB's? 32mm? |

I am using the ninja 300 motor on my bike and ecotrons fuel pump and regulator. Like you said its a bit easier since less plumbing but it was a pain to get all the air bubbles out with a dead end rail. From what I could tell when I had everything off the bike the ecotron tbs were just a tad bit smaller than the 300 tbs. But the 300 tbs open big and tappers down when its feeding towards the head.

I think the Ecotron throttle body will be fine. My power will come from the nitrous. Having 45 psi of fuel pressure should make the nitrous system very smooth.

I just spent ten hours(snow day) installing the wiring for the fuel injection and finishing up the swingarm.
The swingarm involved a longer chainguard and a longer chain . Also a longer break line. I switched to a 140 tire for more top end. Now I have to recalculate all the gear ratios for a tire that is taller. I now have to make up all the fuel lines fuel pump regulator . And have a threaded bung installed in the tank. It does not look like I will make the race in Ohio may 2-3. That is a huge disappointment. But I need to tune the bike at the I/4 mile track before I go the mile.

I got a fully adjustable fuel pressure regulator. The working pressure is 3 bar.
This unit comes with a gauge and was only 15.00 on E bay. I also got a 220 Liters per hour fuel pump. This will easily supply the fuel injection and nitrous. Even if I run E-85 I will have enough volume.. Once I get the regulator and pump mounted I can run all the fuel lines and fittings. I will use all AN 4 and AN 6 fittings

I spent the day installing the fuel pump. 220 L/H pump tucked under the seat in front of the back tire.
This is why I extended the swing arm.

After seven months and the conversion from carbs to fuel injection. I am almost ready to start the engine. The engine is a fresh 265cc that I ran last year. I just took it apart and went through the valves and lapped the seats. Rings had some gunk sticking them in there lands. So I cleaned the pistons up and re honed the block.
I changed the hoses the that come with the Ecotrons kit. It took a long time to make up all the hoses. I need a large fuel pump for the nitrous. And I want an adjustable pressure regulator with a gauge. All the lines are stainless steel with 4-AN fittings. Information is power. I now have a fuel pressure gauge. Exhaust temp gauges, one on each cylinder, oil temp ,water temp and the O2 sensors. Most of it I can record to look at later. Looks like tomorrow I will try to start it for the first time.

Not going well. Everything seems OK. I have compression, spark and fuel. But all I can get is a couple pops from the intake or a loud bang from the exhaust. I have been checking everything I can think of and nothing is wrong. Matt is helping me out but it does not seem like a fuel problem. The injectors are spraying and it won't run on starting fluid. I double checked cam timing.

OK I really have to say how much I appreciate Matt @ Ecotrons . It's Sunday morning and he has answered three e mails and shipped me a part that will help. I don't think there is anything wrong with the system. My bike is far from stock and he is really trying to help. That is awesome.

Tonight I started my bike for the first time since September last year. I have converted it to run with Econtros fuel injection. Matt has worked very hard to help me get to this stage. I can not say enough about the support that he has given me.
I still have a lot to do and a couple bugs to work out. But I should be ready to dyno soon. It feels really good to have the bike running again.

I have learned a lot about the Ecotrons fuel injection system. I really like it so far. But need time to get comfortable. The next race is in September. And I just don't have time to get the bike running with the fuel injection and nitrous. So I am moving the fuel injection system back to the turbo bike.
I installed the CR Special carbs for the time being and I left the fuel pump and regulator for the nitrous. Before I had a gravity feed fuel system. It worked . But now I have an unlimited supply of high pressure fuel. The carbs are very consistent for what I do. And the nitrous should be smoother with 3 bar of fuel pressure. The carbs will use a gravity feed to a small pump the runs about 4 psi

I am getting ready to run the bike again. I will be adding atomized high pressure fuel to the nitrous mix. Before I had a gravity feed system that basically poured fuel in through a tube with a hole on the tip of an injector. Vacuum from the engine pulled the fuel into the airstream along with the nitrous. Because the fuel was moving slower than the nitrous at 900 psi. I have a delay programmed into the delivery scheme.
Now I have a high volume pump and regulator to provide 45 psi to an atomizing fuel injection tip. There is a fuel regulating jet at the Atomizer. The result will be a crossfired plume of gasoline and a plume of nitrous oxide coming together at the intake valve. This will eliminate the delay and provide a smother initial nitrous event and better control during the spray. Also I will have a safety built in that will turn off the nitrous when fuel pressure or nitrous pressure drops below a certain level.

I spent the day today setting up the fuel system. I have so much fuel it's rediculus. I had over three times the fuel I needed. I can definitely expand or tune for anything with the system I have now.
I did the nitrous static test and now I am ready to dyno. 60 hp is the goal.

If it was a fogger type wet setup: 6 psi fuel / 900 psi bottle with .018 nitrous and .022 fuel would add just a hair over 29 hp. It would be a fuzz rich, but you could pull the fuel back to maybe .016 or .017 with good quench and some ignition retard.
On my E.T. 1075 bike, I ran 18/22 and it really leveled out E.T. differences from ambient temperature changes. It ran 9.90 @ 135 on motor (with good air), and low 10's with bad air. Ran 8.80/158 boosted = Fast 1075.

The Wizards of nitrous is set up just a bit different.
Bottle pressure is below 900. Someplace above 800 but not 900. And I have a #80 jet in the nitrous before it splits between cylinders. There is a venom injector nozzle in the manifold I run from one to five bar of fuel pressure. Currently three bar. No jets but the outlet of the fuel atomizers is. .40 mm. The volume is 30 ml in ten seconds. And I removed all the nitrous delay. When I go on the dyno I will adjust the nitrous delay and fuel volume to get the event timing so the fuel and nitrous hit together. I am close but I want to watch that. Then watch the exhaust temp and see how the mixture does. Everything is close but I want to double check it and measure things since adding fuel pressure.

Took the bike to the 1/4 mile track today. I went to the dyno last week and found a couple problems with my set up . Not a big deal but stuff that needed fixing.
I went to the 1/4 mile to test the riding position and engine with and without nitrous. Everything went as planned. I made a first pass to feel out the bike. Went 17 second at 81 mph That was fine, the bike pulled without any problems . Next phase was the nitrous test. I took the bike to third gear and hit the nitrous. The bike really pulled hard. 13500 rpm 86 mph in third gear. That was at about 1000 feet. I let off and still rolled through at 16 seconds. That was enough testing to prepair for the mile.
