I got my freaking bike!!!!
I love it so much, shes my baby, i named her Sheila (yes from Red vs Blue if anyone knows that im talking about) and yes I rode it back from the dealer as mentioned in my other thread (: it was 40 minutes on the road for the first time and it went well except for backing up traffic and then stalling on a hill. Anyone have any tips how to avoid stalling on a hill? i was at a stop sign on a very steep Pennsylvania hill and almost made it but the bike stalled and wanted to go backwards , any help? |

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! Give it some throttle as you are slowly releasing the clutch......

Congrats!
Practice in a deserted parking lot get used to where the clutch starts to engage. Learn that engagement point and when on a hill, release the lever to just before that point, gas the bike a little more than you would on a level surface then slowly, smoothly release the clutch till the bike begins to move. Keep your right foot on the rear brake to keep the bike from rolling backwards and release the rear brake as you engage the clutch. sounds a bit complicated, but it becomes second nature after you practice it a few hours on a parking lot. |

Yea that makes sense, until your holding the front brake to keep from rolling backwards, then you cant roll on the throttle, i think the key is to use the back brake (:
it was a really steep hill haha, it was semi-embarrassing |

Nongatulations on the new bike.
For hills you need to keep your foot on the back brake while giving it some throttle and slowly release the clutch...once you feel the friction zone on the clutch then release the brake and you are on your way with minimum roll back. Safe riding to ya. |

Yeah, I noticed I was having the SAME problem with my brand new bike. You really have to give it a lot of gas to get it going. I was taking it easy, but now I am ripping it up. Nice.

i've spoke to a few harley cruiser riders , at the dmv and msf and they seem to take a dislike to me as soon as i say the word "kawasaki" so i was expecting less, but its such a great feeling just bein on the road enjoyin your ride and then someone waves to you on the other side of the road as thye go by and your like wow that great feeling just got better |

Congrats on getting your bike! Remember 2 things .... 1. friction zone friction zone friction zone. You'd be surprised how many times you are going to have to rely on it from parking lots to uturns to hills, to slowing and following and setting up for turns... thats just a few of them. 2. look to where you want to go... if you shoulder and steer your turns... think "look to where you want to go" and the bike miraculously follows. Oh and 3... stop straight... that will save your life! Have a great time!
Oh and another thing that amazes me with you guys. So quick to call these machines "your baby" and then so quick to pick out a name... but when the girlfriends announce.... "ummmm this might be your baby"... they can't see most of you for dust! |

when i was first starting out, i found it easier to use the front brake and the throttle when on a hill. it was kind of tricky, but i would kill the engine if i tried the rear brake method. now, the rear brake method is so much easier. like red ninja said, just use more throttle and you should be fine. |

Nice bike, I like red ones. Taking off on a hill is more mental than anything. Just use some of your back brake. Just don't fall going up a hill lol

congratulations on picking up your new baby. Hills are tricky but practice make perfect and don't be embarassed it happens to the best of us. I've noticed that the only ppl that don't wave are chicks on sportbikes. Maybe they feel the have to hold on for dear life and can't free a hand to signal hi.

you can use first and middle finger to hold the front brake and still be able to roll the throttle, just takes practice, a lot of riders brake like that to be able to blip the throttle downshifting.

And yes again, those are Shift Fuel Boots. They're kind of a cross between street shoes and riding shoes. The guy at Cycle Gear suggested them since they were cheaper than other huge boots I could have bought and also said I didn't need to go completely overboard with racing boots or anything just yet... Yeaa had to name it after red vs blue. I couldnt come up with any other names and i figure, whats better than naming my bike after a tank hahah Thanks I thought I would be ok with jeans but after my first ride on the street, I'm considering the jeans with kevlar padding I saw at cycle gear. You know of anything else I should take a look at? |

I have the jeans they sell at cycle gear and wear these under them sometimes but mostly when i just wear plain jeans.
ALPINESTARS Reflex Knee Guards they were fairly cheap and have to be better than just jeans. I also have these i wear on longer rides. Fieldsheer Street Pants |

I got them on sale for 50bucks. Yes i like them but feel better about the protection in the Fieldsheer ones. That's why i wear the knees pads with them sometimes. But for wearing them at work they are great, don't feel any different from regular jeans.

One finger on the front brake, to hold the bike stopped on the hill, and the rest on the throttle. You'll have no problems once you master that.
Were they out of green or did you want everyone to think it was a Ducati? Looks good anyway.
