bent shifter pedal
Question.
If the shifter pedal was bent would that cause you not to sfift to a highr gear. I only ask because I tried to put a 15 tooth front sprocket on and when I did this I could not sfift to 3rd. However with the stock 14 tooth sprocket I can sfift all the way to 6th. what you think? I order the whole assimablly today thinking this is the isse. If this does not fix it then it has to be internal.

The shifter pedal would have to be hitting something in order for the tranny not to shift through the gears. Having a 15 tooth sprocket should not affect the internal shifting of the tranny.
https://www.ninjette.org/forums/show...66&postcount=1 Take a pic of the bent shifter so we can see it. The stock shifter has a natural bend to it. |

Something was wrong in your re-assembly. Check the manual.

^^ what he said. Make sure that the shifter is angled correctly or else you don't have enough leverage to shift it properly.
Also, if you dropped the bike and bent the shift lever, it is likely that you pushed the shifter rod(the think that your shifter knuckle mounts to) further in and thus putting the gear changer out of alignment with the shifter drum. Sorry I don't remember the exact names Kawasaki calls the part. @alex.s has a video and thread regarding it.

Did you take the shift lever off
to install the sprocket? If so my guess would be you reinstalled it one or two teeth clockwise. If so just take shifter off & move a couple teeth counterclockwise There is actually an alignment mark on the shifter & the shifter shaft so you can check If you did not remove the shifter & have dropped & bent the shifter of course it could be a possibility that it will no longer have full throw as linkage adjustment has changed But easy to bend back as it is malleable, But surely you would know if it was bent yes? Other possibility is when you were working on the sprocket could you have bent just the adjustable shift linkage rod? That would have the same effect as shifter being moved |

You have it mounted so low that it may be hitting the pushrod. Why is it so low?

Your shift lever looks like it belongs on a pre-gen (it may also just be the paint). It's also looks too straight. When it's too straight it hit's the shift rod. To miss hitting the shift rod you have to mount it lower than the shift rod. Normally it is mounted about 1/4 "" higher and parallel to the shift rod (shift rod looks messed up too). Adjust the tie rod link to where there is approx 3 " between the front tie rod lock nut to the rear lock nut.
After looking at your whole gear change assy, it believe it is one from a pregen Ninja 250. Compare yours to my pics. This is what you need; LEVER-ASSY-CHANGE,PEDAL 13242-0050 ROD-ASSY-TIE 39110-1075 LEVER-ASSY-CHANGE 13242-0071 You can buy new or off ebay. |

If my pedal is from a pre gen 07 or older, could this be the reason why when I put a 15 tooth sprocket on it wont go above 2nd gear?
Remember with a 14 tooth it will go all the way through the gears. Quote:

it could be hitting something on the kick stand mount. disconnect the bolt under the sprocket pull the assembly off and rotate it counter clockwise a little bit till it slides into place. it appears the gear shift assembly is off line.

Both pre and new gen shifters are adjusted similarly. Yours is not. |
