Burnt leg on tail pipe

In the summer I wear shorts underneath the protective pants. Last weekend, after a ride, I parked the bike, took off the pants, and casually gave my right lower leg a second degree burn by contact with the tail pipe. After the split-second of ZZZZT!, there was no pain. Presumably all the nerve endings were burnt off. The dark brown liquid-filled blister is the size of a match-book - still intact. Doc says to keep it so until it bursts, then bandage it with prescribed med for at least a month. You ladies with competition-grade legs be careful! - AM

first day on the road , stop sign at the top of a hill, i tried to use the front break from goin backwards and use throttle at the same which is hard to do with one hand... i learned that the key is to use the back break unless you have long fingers and can manipulate both the break and throttle with some sort of contorted claw of a hand

Take this from a guy with short hands, I've learned how to do this, and it is also helping me learn to blip while breaking+downshifting as well. It is possible, though I have considered installing Ninja 500 adjustable levers....

Dont want to thread jack, but i have a few questions, so just pm about how to do it if you get a chance or just make a thread because im sure other people with small hands need help also.

Carry on...

You will now be returned to your regular scheduled programming.

Yea I did the same thing a few weeks ago, had shorts under the riding pants and went to put the bike under the carport with shorts on, I didn't even feel it until a few minutes after... Mines not as bad as yours though, no blister to pop...

Dark Ninja, well, I'm no "gruesomist", but here is a pic taken to answer your question. The blister is midway between knee and ankle, about "2 o'clock". Thank you for your concern.

I bet CCCowboy is salivating now to the "sweet smell of burning flesh".

That is quite a blister my friend, make sure it doesn't get infected when it bursts.
You said that you think all the nerve endings burnt off so you didn't feel any pain?
I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing (sounds like the best bad-thing that could happen). But i get the feeling that it would have hurt twice as much as it looks like it would have.

Hopefully pain doesn't need to be involved in order for it to be a lesson learned?

Thank you! Don't mean to gross you out with that pic. Hope no such blister will ever appear on your leg, or Dark Ninja's! BTW, FYI, the cream prescribed is called Flamazine. - AM

ouch

I don't think there are that many nerve endings there.

I leaned over my bike a while ago to grab the charger leads after I had changed into shorts. My left foot was planted too close to the bike and as I leaned over my leg pressed against the can. As my full weight was on my left leg (using right leg as counter balance) I was unable to pull it away as fast as I would have liked.

My burn wasn't as significant as yours (from looks alone) but it was still relatively painless. Relatively meaning I only cursed a few times. It did, however, take longer to heal than I expected and I still have a mark a few months later.

Heal quick! I know I won't make that mistake again.

been there done that.. after swapping off my black cans for the chrome ones.. I took it for a quick ride to make sure all was well.. and I NEVER wear shorts riding.. but i did.. and of course I pulled over and leaned a bit to check one side and barely touched it.. a little burnt skin.. all healed now.. that was over a month ago... but a stupid mistake.

I burnt my leg on my father's bike the first time I got on it with him. The burn was the size of a waffle and looked like a big pepperoni..that was oozing and bleeding profusely for days. Of course I didn't go to the hospital.

Nothing compared to your ordeal, brother. I'm sure we're both the wiser, though hopefully not wise enough to stay away from bikes! Back in the saddle this weekend, right? About time.
