Well that sucked
Just had to ride the ol' girl to the emergency room. Woke up with a ridiculously painful kidney stone. Wife was already at school for finals, so car was out of the question. Nurses were a little shocked seeing me stumble in wearing my helmet and dry heaving from the nausea. All good now, morphine has kicked in quite well. Sorry if grammer or run on sentences, but I'm chasing the purple dragon right now

My hat is off to you! Once drove a guy who was having a kidney stone attack and his wife to the hospital. He was one of those guys who never acknowledged pain. He was crying like a baby on the back seat and begging me to drive faster (we were already taking curves on two wheels)! Shortly after we arrived, a nurse gave him a shot of morphine. As she started to leave, he grabbed her arm and demanded another!

I have had over 60 in the past 8 years, from the size of a grain of sand up to marble size. Doctor just came in to tell me this one is 7.7 mm. That is right at the threshold hold for needing to have surgery. This couldn't have come at the worst time. FTW!

yeah luckily I have only had 1 bout of it, but the big one was a little over 10mm, and it required surgery. And it was horrid. sad smiley for you

Yeah, I've had surgery twice. One of the worst experiences of my life. The stints that they put in were almost as painful as the stones

@Hero Danny A gallon of water a day? Add half a teaspoon of sea salt to one of your glasses of water.

I used to be a two a day energy drink person. Now it is one every other day. Still too much I know. Water is the key to it all. Doctors did tell me I should be drinking the 1 gal a day like Hero said. I have tried, The most I have gotten down in a day is half a gallon.

Drink a glass as soon as you wake up. As much as it sucks, just get it down. Be consistent with it and youll start to crave it.

good luck and I hope it's over soon.
At first, water kinda sucks. When I was training last year, I learned a few drops of "real" lemon juice goes a loooooooonnnnnnnggggg way. After a few weeks, it's no big deal.

to you people drinking over a gallon a day- you need to do some research on hydration. you are doing damage to yourself. and if you really are losing that much fluids through sweat, you don't want to drink water, you want to have real solution that will go in clean without needing to be adjusted by your body. like coconut water. coconut water is the only natural substance that can be safely used as IV fluid.

I had a bad experience with the pain meds back in 2008. I was trying to pass another 8mm stone and the doctor gave me a bottle of 300 percocets, yes 300! Needless to say I got hooked on those ****ers and was popping them like candy for a month straight . Well when the stone finally passed and I ran out of the pills I went through a full week of withdrawl hell. Full on fetal position, shakes, sweats, full body muscle aches. Felt like the flu x 20. That experience made me never want to be on that amount of pain killer ever again. I never thought I would be one of those people you hear about getting hooked on that **** due to a surgery, illness, etc. Just goes to show that it can happen to pretty much anyone once the chemicals take over the brain. |

Yes, kidney stones are genetic. But literally every site I've ever visited says that kidney stones can be help prevented by drinking enough water and make sure to lose weight, and eat less meaty foods. I've done research because i'm a health nut and a member over in the bodybuilding forums, I've done plenty of research on this stuff and 1 gallon isn't dangerous, that's just ridiculous. The only time drinking a ton of water is dangerous is when it's all at once cause then you can drown yourself. That's a fact, but sipping on water throughout the day is completely healthy. I drink 1 gallon throughout the day and I am a 150 lb 5'7 guy, and I tell you what man, I feel efing great! Here's some sources for you ya little cutie!! 1 gallon is healthy! http://www.noexcusemom.com/one-gallon-water-challenge/ http://www.builtlean.com/2013/06/04/water-drink-day/ Good chart on this site to see your "range" http://sportsmedicine.about.com/od/h...-You-Drink.htm This is what happens when you enter one of those "radio contests" about drinking a gallon of water in a short amount of time... YES you can die, that is why you need to make that gallon last all day and constantly use the bathroom. http://www.scientificamerican.com/ar...ater-can-kill/ There's literally hundreds of more sources I just didn't feel like reading more and more cause they get repetitive at times, and I try and read all my sources before I source them. Yeah, I don't know much about cocoa water, i'm sure it's fine. But water is free and abundant so I'm going to keep on drinking it. Keep it simple.

Also, I know everyone is different. But I have a friend who had kidney stones before, his dad got them all the time too (so we see some genetic similarities here...) After my friend's 2nd stone he started to lose weight (he was a little on the big side, like 220 lbs 5'11) He lost a lot of weight and started drinking a gallon of water a day and he hasn't gotten a kidney stone since...
I get it, some people are different, but I bet you money you don't have the optimal life style (exercising and diet). This goes for you too Alex.s.

having had double kidnee failure, my doctors had to give me a good education on renal failure and operation. trust me, 1.5 gallons a day is absolutely ****ing your kidnees unless that is all coconut water. i don't care how much you sweat.
the fact that you don't even know why coconut water is good or drink it for working out shows you are reading articles written by those pseudoscience idiots who draw conclusions from the stars alignment with venus

I passed a kidney stone once when I was a kid. I was literally rolling around on the floor screaming in agony. Parents didn't take me to the hospital until I peed blood, obviously by then there was nothing they could do about it.
I don't know how you could drive a motorcycle with one, but I guess if you've had 60 in you life than maybe you're a little more used to it. It's my understanding that they're caused by to much calcium in your system. Do you drink a lot of milk by chance?

Seems like everyone here already gave you good advice.
No more soda. Drink more water. I just force myself to drink a class in the morning and evening and I drink it with every meal almost. I drink almost exclusively water at this point* I used to drink 2 litres of mountain dew a day. Those were the good days lol. * well when I am not drinking , beer, whiskey, rum, vodka, wine, and all the other spirits that make life more enjoyable.

1 gal is about 7 or 8 bottles of water.
I drink about 4-6 bottles a day on average. Ehhh. Good enough I guess. I really isn't that hard. Drink a bottle when u wake up before you leave the house. And one bottle at night an hr or two before bed. During the course of the day, you can easily drink 2-4 bottles depending how thirsty you are. |

also. because it's obvious you don't know, drinking water alone does nothing to help you. you need water and electrolytes. (coconut water is a perfect balance for humans) without proper electrolytes your blood has no way to transfer the water into the cell, and drinking extra water without electrolytes actually causes the opposite of what would think. it sends electrolytes out of the intercell to dillute the water. you deplete your existing electrolytes making you dehydrate faster.

basically the only way you could be doing worse with your hydration was if you were drinking alcohol instead of water
