March dealership deal madness in NJ
I bought my GSXR, a brand-new 2011 leftover, in March 2013 for $9499 including dealer prep and freight. Awesome deal that I just couldn't pass up.
Got it from a large, volume-driven dealership in northern NJ (near Giants Stadium) called Motorcycle Mall. I just got an email and they're doing deals like this again, if anyone in the area is in the market. Examples: 2014 leftover Ninja 300, $3995, no prep, no freight. 2013 Ninja ZX-6R 636, $8,550, no prep, no freight. Etc. Excellent deals on new Kawis, Hondas and Suzukis. These are not demos. They are brand-new leftovers. No affiliation here.... just happy with the deal I got. They're also so stereotypically New Jersey that it's hard to keep a straight face when dealing with them. Entertaining. http://www.motorcyclemall.com

What do you mean by "no prep, no freight?"

You've never shopped for a new vehicle? I thought this stuff was common knowledge.
Car or motorcycle, there's always a charge for freight from the manufacturer to the dealer and a charge for dealer prep (uncrating, assembly, etc). Walk into any car dealer and look at the window sticker. The quoted price normally does not include these things, and they add up to a significant chunk of change. The cost of a new vehicle is: Price for the vehicle itself + Dealer prep + Freight + Sales tax + Transfer fee (state requirement, at least where I live) + Registration (DMV) These last three are sometimes called "tax, title and plates." Even if you buy used, you have to pay transfer and registration fees.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call them a paragon of quality in knowledge or practices.
I have yet to encounter a vehicle salesperson, car or bike, who knew more about the product I was interested in than I did. Anywhere. So that's par for the course. In the couple of years my bike had been sitting in their showroom, a few more-or-less trivial bits and pieces had disappeared off of it. A plastic brace that goes between the lower fairings in front of the radiator, a bar end weight, the owner's manual, little stuff like that. They made it right with no argument, but I had to point the issues out. Caveat emptor.... I know how that kind of thing happens and it's really not a slam on the dealership itself. I'd put money on it that somebody was just trying to help out a customer. I used to do the same thing back when I worked at a retail sporting goods store. Somebody would come in with a non-functional Coleman lantern or stove, and I'd fix it for them on the spot by cannibalizing parts from a new one in the store room. They were happy, became a repeat customer, and I didn't care much. Hell, I was a minimum wage sales drone.
